Kelly Clarkson Reflects on The 10 Year Ride Since American Idol's Season 1

Pop superstar Kelly Clarkson talks to the Wall Street Journal's Lee Hawkins about her business and brand as part of the Pepsi NFL Anthems kickoff Eve. Clarkson reflects on how fame and money affected her life, as well as how mentorship from Reba McEntire and her carefully selected team of others has helped her sell nearly 40 million records in a decade. She told Hawkins that while she served as a judge on the hit show "Duets" she can't see herself ever being a judge on American Idol.

You know, Iv'e always loved and respected Kelly Clarkson, but after this interview, I love and respect her even more. How many 19 year old's would think about their personal ethics before a multi-million deal? It's very encouraging to know that there are still people out there with integrity. This is by the most soul-gazing interview I've seen of her thus far. Kudos to the interviewer BTW, finally someone who asks REAL questions....

Kelly was actually 20 yrs old when she auditioned for American Idol. She mentioned that she had just turned 20 when she auditioned for the judges.

Interesting interview. Great questions. It's amazing how savvy she was at such a young age in choosing and dealing with recording contracts and the vultures in the business. I also really appreciate Kelly's candor, including her talking specifics regarding her initial Idol payment advances and difficulties after being the first Idol winner. She is just awesome. Have loved her music all these years. What a gift to the music industry and to top 40 music fans.

Nice interview. I can't wait for Kelly's Greatest Hits CD to arrive next week! She's only 30. That's amazing! I like Kelly because she's strong, hardworking, humble, & refuses to be pigeonholed. I relate to those traits. Congrats to her on her American Music Awards nominations. I've met & talked to Kelly in person. She's nice. I read online she said she was rejected by 8 pop artists for duets. Country artists are receptive to doing duets with her. Many artists' voices can't compare to Kelly's.

FACT CHECK. Actually Kelly has not sold 40 Million. She has sold 12 million albums and 10.5 singles singles per RIAA.com. Carrie Underwood has sole 19.5 million albums, and 32 million singles per RIAA. Só Carrie Underwood has sold the most Albums, and singles and is the BEST SELLING IDOL WINNER OF ALL TIME.
