Satire must be a dying art to people if they honestly think that this video is suppose to be 100% serious. I mean it's right in your title "Last Week Lolita News" its a reference to "Last Week Tonight". @Isabel Welsh Isabel Welsh This is old, but that's not what satire means. The op correctly defined satire already when they said it's the use of humor/ridicule ect to criticize an issue. You don't have to pretend to be anything in order for it to be satire. Tyler makes exaggerated insults and comments ridiculing the topics she covers to criticize and bring light to her given topic. That is literal satire.
@bigdadbeefsticks4 жыл бұрын
Just because it's satire doesn't mean the message isn't to be taken seriously. In fact the point of satire is to get a serious criticism across in a more shocking but palatable way. As someone who’s worked at a popup Halloween store for a couple fall seasons, this is 100% true. Most people use logic and understand that our policy makes sense and is there for their health and safety. And yet… there’s always the few who come in with their opened wigs, opened packs of tights, and yes, even opened and WORN underwear pieces like thongs, who just insist that it’s not a big deal, and that if I sold it to them, I have to refund them 💀

Bethany Hobbs kelly does not seem like a bad person to me, but regardless of her intent, which was obviously NOT to spend $1500, we all make mistakes. The thing is, though, no matter how costly the mistake, we ought to own up to them. i can understand - but not condone - her attempting to return the dress, but the fact that she refused to budge, made a scene, and then even got frustrated that it was taking "so long" (as if it's the store's responsibility to do what she wants on her schedule) when it is the store's policy that all sales are final and it was entirely her fault that the mistake was made to begin with - she did not handle this gracefully, nor the way she should have. things do get complicated when money is involved, especially THAT much, but Angelic Pretty should not have been held responsible for her negligence at all, and i hope she can realize that.

ScarfingScarves yes, before I think it was atelier Pierrot’s store that was between baby and AP, now AP expanded on that side and share a wall with baby. This story was a facepalm after facepalm, not even during Laforet Bazaar (which I assume is when she found everything on sale the previous time) a dress like that will be THAT cheap for ANY brand, and in the rare case, you’ll have to make a line at 3am for early access tickets. I have personally been on the case that I needed to return or exchange stuff (not at a Lolita store, I’ll never even take stuff to the register without triple checking every single item and even my wallet) but those were very extreme cases where there were mistakes on the store part (damaged items or not as advertised) that’s the ONLY case they allow returns/refunds. They will also ask multiple times if you’re ok with the price and size too, that’s standard everywhere and anywhere, and with a manager present, there is no was that didn’t happen. Oh lord, this was a dress in a mannequin, probably with a tag of ‘no photo’ and fully coordinated for display, with more lace than a fabric store and a matching bonnet. How on earth did she ignore all those red flags? I am super sad for the manager and the poor salesperson that authorized their purchase, they were most likely hold accountable for this ridiculous episode because failure to read a tag.

Y'all she's going back to Japan in May. I commented on her Facebook post saying "Don't buy an $1000 dress again lol" I'm not proud of much, but I'm proud of that.

I love Kelly. I really do. But holy shit was this pretty disappointing coming from her. She came off as entitled and a dunce. If she did really know her way around Lolita, she should have been a bit more cautious.

Not only that she doubled back and forced them to take it back which is against their policy. She very easily could have sold it.

One interesting thing to note is they don’t walk you out of the store just for super expensive shit I made a purchase under 100 or 200 and the clerk walked me to the exit of the store. Which isn’t far because the stores in laforet are tiny.

I didn't know about either you or Kelly until this evening. But, I am totally here for this murder on camera. I have literally no brain cells and I could process the yen exchange as an individual who has NEVER been to Japan.

How the hell did she not realise this! I get suspicious seeing a dress in my dream vintage brand for under £30 unless I know the store owner (I've met both owners of my local vintage stores in person several times).

This video was right on point and I’m sorry that Kelly’s blind sheep disliked it. Her actions are a big embarrassment to other Americans going to Japan. I mean how do you go to Japan and not know how the yen to usd conversion works?! Just terrible.
@Twigg3h7 жыл бұрын
I love Kelly but hoooo boyy so much ignorance in that video I'm not even in the lolita community (just admire from the sidelines) no idea how she didn't notice how much she was spending at purchase time and/or not realise that even if that was the price tag it was an obvious error but she was also so offensively sterotypical American about the whole thing (you are not entitled to returns!) I had a pricing error problem in harajuku (language barrier and no marked prices) you know what I did wore the hell out of that coat (17000 Not 7000) and dealt with having no money like the stupid foreigner I was.
@frostfang16 жыл бұрын
Twigg3h it just seems like such a skeevy thing. Kinda tourist trappy. As someone in the tourist industry it's so weird to me to not be very confident I know what someone wants and that they are informed when purchasing something, especially something then may not know has an extra charge on it. The "well it's none of my business of the are aware of policy/price/issues with product" when it's literally part of your job being employed in that business just seems so smiley. I don't have a credit card, so it's a bit different. But if I can't afford it, I'm not going to risk my ability to survive because I didn't understand what I was getting into.

Oh dear. Trusting her friend's dodgy currency conversion more than the numerous warning signs before buying the dress (including both her own intuition and knowing it probably wouldn't fit her) was bad enough, but failing to realise her mistake until the day after the purchase, then being narcissistic enough to believe they'd readily acquiesce to her will even after being told by her manager they didn't accept returns, still believing they were being unnecessarily difficult in the store, then to add insult to injury, doesn't recognise she was in the wrong several days (weeks?) later when vlogging about the incident. Hopefully she'll learn (eventually?) that the word of her friends shouldn't necessarily be taken as Word of God, and the world doesn't revolve around her.

Legally no shop in the whole world is comitted to have you returning stuff that you don't want - if shops do it, it is mostly because of jelly spine managements and general obligingness, but most customers think that they are entitled to it. It's disgusting how she went full "I want to speak to the manager" on their asses and seems offended when they don't kiss up to her any longer.

I was just reading the reviews for AP Laforet and saw that apparently the shop girls are really unwelcoming to foreigners, if that’s true,, people like Kelly are probably the reason why 😢
@blushface4 жыл бұрын
Are people typically able to return couture? I feel like this dress would fall under that category. (is that even a thing in Lolita? heh) I used to be so inspired by Kelly, because of her house specifically. (Haus of Eden) Her artistic talent & ability to "be herself", but something along the way started bothering me & I don't know why.

Working as a customer support i acn proove you how some people feel so entitled being a customer. A policy is a policy. Also, if AP don't want her to return it then just sell it the same price she got it.

Wait...did I misunderstand? She cancelled the transaction before returning the dress and insisting on a full refund? As in they did not receive the funds for the original purchase because she cancelled it at 3 am or whenever? So she made AP *pay her* the full cost of her purchase? That's just completely insane, not to mention immoral.
