I have the base KK , Used it for the first time on a wild camp, super impressed by it, mine makes about 6 cups of water. Once you get the hole at the right angle into the wind on the base it blows like a furnace. Stunning stunning piece of kit.

I think the best way to use the Hobo stove is to split a big log and place it in the base so that its basically a small swedish candle. Then place a load of small tinder around and over it. Light that lot and once your water is boiled the big bits of wood will also be well lit. You can remove the the chimney and have a much longer burn and coals to cook on with the Hobo attachment. This way you can avoid having to keep putting in the little twigs unless its all you have. If you use it with Charcoal then it won't smoke as much and isn't heavy and is a great option in winter. Also the design is good even in rain since the fire is protected by the Chimney!

I gather twigs and sticks in good weather, out for a walk, take them home and process them and place in a plastic bag ready for the next camp i might need them for, dib dib. I put the bag in a plastic box in which i may have many bundles of tinder ready to use and it cost me nothing, well maybe some calories going to collect it.

A great bit of kit. I think a good tip for using the kelly kettle is to have your tea/coffee cup, bowl of dehydrated food, frying pan with cooking oil in etc at the ready before you light the fire. Otherwise there's a good chance the water will be boiling before you are actually ready to make your drink, cook your sausages etc.

Hi, quick question; if I understand you correctly you always need the water in the kettle if you want to use it (say for cooking on top of the chimney because apparently no one thinks the hobo stove is any good), even if you do not need hot water at that point in time ?
@bexbugoutsurvivor
@bexbugoutsurvivor 6 жыл бұрын
That is correct. Water must be full at any time the fire bowl is in flame. This is because the heat will crack the welded seems of the inner chimney without water. The hobo stove is pretty naff, but I have heard tale of people drilling extra air holes to aid continuose combustion. I can carry 600 ml in the kettle to camp, and carry a couple of extra water bottles to keep the kettle topped up, if a water sourse is not available. Even if cooking on top of the kelly, water is always pesent in the kelly, just boiling away and being topped up, as required. Hope this helps, thanx for watching....Bex

@brendanb1541
@brendanb1541 Жыл бұрын
@Vv S The design does 2 things that work together to boil water fast. The inner chimney draws the air up fast to increase the flow rate and burn the fuel hotter. Second, the hollow design greatly increases the surface area of the heat to the water in the pot. The KK has something like 4 times more surface area for the heat to transfer to the water than the bottom of a standard pot or kettle. It also uses a very small amount of biomass fuel to boil the water and does so quickly.
