At age 48, some days it's almost impossible to get out of bed and get moving. I feel like I simply don't have the strength anymore. Then I see the determination, the hard work it takes to keep going every day, that Kelly shows with everything he does. It gives me the boost I need to get up and stretch and if nothing else, get the yard mowed today, but deep inside, stokes the fire within me, and gives me the inspiration to dig deep and do the best I can for another week. To say that he's my hero, is grossly understated. Kelly is my is my inspiration. Period.

You have a yard? Lucky bastard, i have to get up from the bush i happened to sleep under on any given night, whether i feel like it or not. As for my inspiration to do some exercise Kelly plays his part, of course, but running from the police for sleeping under a bush that doesn't belong to me is what really gets me going.

Mindset is everything. After being on tour this long and winning 11 titles, he would know better than most. A really great insight into what makes a champion into a legend. An 11 time champion who is just as vunruable as anybody else with the same problems and issues as many of us. The true champions find away to overcome adversity. The wanna be champions say " You were just lucky". Well I don't think that luck has anything to do with it. Hard work and dedication to something you love for over 40 years makes you what you are. This is a great series. Should be more like this🤙

Pretty epic little youtube series. Good to see Kelly being so real and open. So crazy in the first ep i remember he said after a bad surf session he felt like the biggest kook in the world, coming from the greatest surfer of all time i think is crazy but makes us all feel a bit better knowing we arent the only ones after having a bad session sometimes and feeling like shit after. Some pretty epic videography clips in this video, also that young eli kid i think was his name. He looks like he is gonna be a pro surfer pretty soon!

Huge respect for his surfing , even more so as a human .

I’ve heard Kelly say, two times now, that he isn’t surfing as well or people think he isn’t surfing as well. Truly, I think it’s his equipment. He’s f’ing around with new surfboard technologies too much, and it’s at the expense of him winning more. Even a little grom here on BI that I was talking surfing with out in the lineup the other day, saw that Kelly’s boards are too floaty and clunky. I’ve noticed the same. I think if Kelly went back to PU, and started riding shapes he used to win on, he’d start winning again more. I don’t think he’s lost it physically. I think his neurons are just overcompensating for all the perpetual RD, tweaks in shapes, material changes, etc. Go back to what works. We’re all stoked your innovating for everyone, but don’t do it at the expense of victories. We’d all rather see you win more so that as we all get older we know we can keep going. Maybe you should start having Matt Biolos shape some PU’s for you. His shit seems to be the best these days. Hands down.

@@1olp1 of Kelly keeps mentioning that his surfing is off then, until Kelly sees it and considers it as a possibility. That’s what people who want to help others have new perspectives do. The heavens knew to have Kelly lose his hair to stay young looking and compete into his 50's. If he had hair it would be grey and he would look much older and people might not look to him as an inspire then. But, with a great head on his shoulder he is ripping at 50. His surfing this year (2022) has been amazing & his boards look perfect under his feet. Sadly the judge dont want Kelly to win anything so, he is constantly underscored.

Surfing is subjective. I shot that heat between Slater and Kanoa Igarashi. During the heat l thought Kelly won but thought, hey the judges saw something l didn't. Later that night, studied my photos, and WSL videos. Kanoa looked flashier but Kelly's turns had more power in them. No matter how much we try, you can't take human emotions out of subjective judging. The level of surfing in the top 32 is better across the board, far exceeding anytime in the past. At any heat, the 32nd seeded guy can legitimately take out the number one guy on tour. It's amazing.

Awesome series so sad to hear about Sunny Garcia. The whole age thing is played out people talk about late forty’s and fifty’s like its eighty’s I’m forty five and feel fine so much of it is mental and Kelly is a huge inspiration also I feel like Genetics also play a role as I have met people thirty five who look seventy and people seventy who look fifty but if your forty eight and are having issues just getting out of bed and mowing the yard you should probably rush yourself to the E.R. Because forty eight isn’t old if your going to get in shape start with your brain because you need to filter all the crap out first then the rest should follow.
