*I know Kelly Stamps on an associate friendly level. I met her while we were both traveling. Her humor is not for those who don't have a good sense of self regardless of your phenotype. I do feel Kelly suffers some internalized racism, leans heavily on stereotypes sometimes in an effort to be humorous and worships whiteness. She also hasn't fully dealt with her trauma of having a covert narcissistic mother. Experience is teaching Kelly things her toxic mother couldn't. I told Kelly she reminded me of the scholarship kids at the private school I attended. She so desperately wanted white validation. Kelly has come a long way since I met her. She finally realizes true validation only comes from within and has educated herself on the myriad effects of institutional and systemic racism and discrimination. My hope is that Kelly won't carry the psychological effects of her family's generational trauma.* ❤

But I appreciate Candace being fearless with whatever she believes in. If Kelly chooses to live her life as a somewhat removed/dry Black “upper class” woman she should have the freedom to do such, her socioeconomic status and sense of humor doesn’t make her any less Black or being worthy of living her life the way she wants to. That is some of the worst cognitive dissonance I've seen. The lady was not trauma-dumping but trying to relate to her as a human being. The radical feminist insult was also silly since she's on camera complaining about her mom not subsidizing her lifestyle (28:47). Why wasn't her father, a man, not paying for her a place to live then and being a provider?

Kelly is a complex case. She literally went from having it all, to potentially more, to a downward spiral and she has no one, not even the KZbin algorithm to blame but herself. A few things I disagree with in this video: 1. Kelly owes Jenna absolutely NOTHING. The whole “Kelly should have defended Jenna” when Jenna got backlash on her videos about Kelly doesn’t make sense. Kelly is not responsible for that. While Jenna feeling how she felt wasn’t wrong, Jenna (an adult) decided to make a video on a public platform about it. People are going to defend their faves and say whatever they want. She then kept making videos about her and even in her vlogs was sneak dissing Kelly on some one-sided beef tip. I wanted to support her channel at the time but her attitude was bad. She is weird and obsessive regarding Kelly. She used to praise Kelly before she switched up. Prior to the one-sided beef, Kelly gave her a shoutout on her channel and Jenna got lots of followers because of that. It was like she was ungrateful and mad she couldn’t get from under Kelly’s shadow when she was the one who decided to attach herself to Kelly’s brand. I think Kelly did the right thing by not acknowledging the one-sided beef because that would fuel it. Because Kelly didn’t acknowledge it, it died the same time it started. Kelly in the end looked better because of it and the problem (Jenna) removed itself. I know that must have been so hard for Kelly to do initially because anyone would be in defense mode if someone came for you and encouraged people to unsubscribe from your channel. I would never defend someone who made a decision to come for me when all I was doing was living my life, and you’re upset because I’m dating people, dressing feminine, and buying myself luxury goods 🥴. Kelly was just enjoying the rewards of her hard work, making herself available to potential suitors, and discovering herself as a woman through fashion choices that Jenna apparently didn’t agree with. Yes it can be triggering for some but Jenna should have separated herself from that and got the help she needed. The fact that she is in this comment section right now and is one of the first people to comment on this video is unsettling. The girl is still obsessed and gives jeepers creepers energy. I said what I said. It’s great that she’s in a better place and discovering herself but it’s clear she is still occupied by all things Kelly. It just makes you doubtful this randomly popped up on her recommended as she said 😏. 2. Kelly can like whatever color peen she likes. I get the correlation of her dating preferences in this video due to the topic but separate from that, I love to see Black women explore their dating options. Black women always get the harder end of the stick when it comes to interracial dating although Black men date out more. She likes what she likes and as long as they’re treating her right that’s all that matters. That in general has nothing to do with self-hate. 3. Every Black person doesn’t have to always talk about political or social issues to be solidified in their Blackness. It’s literally exhausting to carry that load. I honestly enjoy content where a Black woman is just living her carefree life, unbothered, and these issues aren’t centered around the content. It’s refreshing and gives you a break from all the negative. I think it’s clear (sometimes) where someone stands based on how they carry themselves. In this climate where things are very heavy and negative, I wouldn’t want to put that on anyone to be talk about these things. That was what was charming about her channel initially. Her flighty and indecisive nature can definitely be attributed to her ADHD (which I have). I imagine it’s more inflated by her childhood trauma, mixed in with access to money many people may never be able to see in their lifetime. Some of her issues with her Blackness and Black parents can honestly be relatable in some ways so I can’t 100% condemn her because most of us went through some of those phases growing up. I think it’s more serious when you grow up around White people though. I’m compassionate but to a degree. Before Kelly blew up, she was following Charlie Kirk, Ben Shapiro and other racist far-right political figures. I been peeped it before the girls on LSA did. Since they brought attention to it she hid her following. She then very slowly climbed out of her far-right closet. Kelly has said some harsh and definitive things out loud only to keep changing her mind, hence the direction of her channel and her plummeting growth. She still doesn’t know what she wants and who she is and that’s ok but to be bitter and confused about why people are hitching off of her channel doesn’t make sense. Almost every vlog she complains about her KZbin channel in some way, form, or fashion. That’s not content worthy and extremely repetitive. Her KZbin problem is a problem many people wished they had. I stopped watching once the erratic behavior was apparent. The constant and abrupt changes, the pick-me vibes, the “I’m not like the other Black girls”, and now the unhinged, radical Christian direction. It’s too much. Girl needs to sit down and meditate. Oh, but according to some Christians that satanic 😂. My theory with her blaming the algorithm and this new Christian prosecution is that it’s a cover for a bruised ego and the fact that she’s publicly failing at her goal. Kelly was really serious about getting 1M subscribers at a projected time frame. The humble bragging, semi-retirement from KZbin, abandoning the main channel and having a new one to be “herself”, and acting like life is so much better outside of KZbin when this girl loves the camera points to the theory she is very bothered and wants to own her own narrative of why her channel stopped growing. Kelly was an “it girl” at the time and all she had to do was pick up the camera, look cute, say a funny one-liner and the views would come trickling it. She lost it. I check in here and there to see if that version of “Kelly” came back but I think she died a long time ago. Her Father’s death did something to her and with her exposure to money and a level of fame, it really did her head in. When I was a casual viewer in the beginning when she was at like 1K subs, she did have some of this behavior, but I didn’t pick up on it at the time like that because I wasn’t that invested. There’s always truth to jokes so it’s great you highlighted that. There is a vlog where she joked about getting a boob job but said she would never get them because she loves her small boobs. One of the first things she did once she got some money was get her boobs done 😂. Lastly, someone mentioned the correlation between her and Maryjane, and I’ve been seeing that for the longest time. Maryjane is the worst because she actually scammed people, thinks she’s on some mission, and really lives in delulu island with her endeavors. She’s still scamming and her Christian indoctrination seems far worse than Kelly. I just can’t understand Black women and their dedication to a religion that keeps them enslaved and a victim of patriarchy. It’s a mental disorder. I’m spiritual and am open to read any scripture from any religion (so I’m not intolerant) but I have eyes to see and notice some of the man-made indoctrination. I need Black women to wake up and know who they truly are. Anyway, the day someone makes a video about them 2 is a viral video *ahem* @TroyceTv 😂. Those are my thoughts and thanks for reading.

This is in part why the church, specifically the black church has gone down in drastic numbers nationwide. Please don’t equate her saying she has to pay rent to that being her mommy issues. You have no clue what it’s like to be the daughter of a mother who hates you. Who brags about you going to college or your accomplishments but did not help you get them. Also, my mom charged me rent and was buying purses. I come from a single mom, semi-middle class post my mom getting out of the military. Don’t assume all parents are great and loving. Also, you pointed out she grew up in a mainly white/mixed area and wonder why she has a type? Who is she supposed to like, “her people”? The people who tell you that you “act white”? 🤔. The fact that you chuckled at the Oreo thing and said it was messed up shows you don’t GET how that feels, to be yourself and not be accepted in your community. I could leave a longer comment but I won’t. Cause I’m not even done with the video. You should interview people who grew up like this and then maybe you will see how easy it is to turn out the way she is. Also look into neurodivergent people. They don’t make the best therapist for people to trauma dump on. Go pay a therapist for that 😅. My goodness. Yeah I’ll leave this comment.
@minxxoxo5 ай бұрын
Yeah that part and the rest weren’t that problematic to me “she wasn’t grateful”…. She’s spoken at length the fact her mom was damaging towards her. Why would she be? The only side eye worthy thing for me is how she talked about her hair and the weird jokes about black men. Even the not wanting to speak on certain issues? Like she said she gets worked up and wants to protect her peace. She doesn’t want to be a talk person for issues. It’s her channel and her energy she can do whatever she wants with it. Other than that she’s young and has a weird sense of humor that you can either take or leave. She comes across as a black girl raised around white people that needs therapy - I wish her the best and I still watch her occasionally but I won’t pretend there isn’t anything I see she might need help with.

Kelly SHOULD be paying her mother rent. If you were 18+ when you went to college then your mother SHOULD NOT HAVE to help you with college and your accomplishments. Your mother spending your rent money on purses is no dofferent than your landlord spending your rent money on purses, whom youd ALSO be paying if you hadnt lived with your mom. This level of entitlement is INSANE.

Honestly as an “unconventional” free spirited black girl/woman I would NOT talk about politics at all either. As a conspiracy theorist that just doesn’t make sense. Her voice, obviously makes sense seeing that she grew up in a valley where basically no black population lives. It’s how they all talk, even Hispanics. I don’t know what it’s like not growing up around any black people and only having yt friends or trying to impress yt people. I can’t relate to that concept. I’ve never had a complex about being Nubian. I’ve noticed a lot of black peoples born a raised in Cali have anti-black rhetorics/ internalized racism more than other parts of the country. That is unfortunate. It seems like she is just uneducated, unseasoned and was deprived of being in black communities. To the point she adopted the racist thought patterns of her white peers, it’s normal to her. I’ve been called an Oreo maybe once or twice in life. I don’t care about that. I’ve never taken it to heart, it doesn’t matter to me. I’m very silly and goofy yet I’ve never had a reason to make stereotypical jokes about my race. There’s enough hate from other groups to go around. We can be funny and witty without a self-hating “joke” being involved.

This video is anti-middle class black woman. Kelly’s assessment of NYC is fairly accurate. I’m from New York, Brooklyn to be precise, born and raised. KZbin is about self expression and we as black people need to allow other black ppl to express themselves the way they want. I haven’t watched Kelly since December 2020 because I was living my life, and the algorithm stopped recommending her to me and it eventually became out-of-sight out-of-mind so I have no dog in this fight. However, making a video about Kelly who grew up middle class as anti-black is nasty work. This is why we can’t get ahead…because we love to bring down anyone black, who we perceive as “different”. We ask the question “who’s the black Alix Earl?” And why aren’t black ppl getting certain brand deals$$$$? Yet we have a black woman content creator doing numbers and we complain that they’re anti-black and not relatable. Just say you don’t like her because she doesn’t fit your idea of a stereotypical bw and go watch Beyoncé or something. Let’s not even get started on how you look or sound, Julian….but I’m going to be nice because that is not the way, just like this video is not the way. We don’t always have to make negative think pieces about black women, especially when they’re just living their life not harming a soul.

Hmmmmm. She's been catching heat for a while. However, I really didn't pay much attention to it all because I really didn't watch her like that. We're in different generations, so I just thought her content was for THOSE type of Black folks. But then your video popped up on my recommendations. Whew!!! She really is on one. She's like the wanna be comedy version of Candace Owens. Why do I have the feeling that if she wasn't Black, she wouldn't be on KZbin or have a following, because have you ever seen ppl of other races speak about themselves and their race in such a way? I don't think she would have as many fans (white folks) if she did this as a white girl. As for Jennah, I saw her video. The 2nd video. And that's what made me stop watching her. Then I saw that Spencer did a video on Kelly. It seemed like it was a fake video where he was sharing how popular she is and going into how she makes a lot of money as a KZbinr but lives a frugal lifestyle ... it seemed like it was an un-paid paid promotional video. Anywho, I steer clear of these types of Black KZbinrs. The ones who vlog about their lives and make Stabs And jabs at their Blackness. I can't relate. Anywho!!! AWESOME video. Just because someone looks like us, it doesn't mean that they're about US. 😊 Edit: Paying Rent She needs to calm down on this. Adult children should not be up in their parents' house living for free. I remember when I was between college and my real REAL job at NASA, I paid rent to my mom. It helped to pay for groceries, utilities, and the taking up space in HER HOUSE. But, unbeknownst to me, she was saving it all for when I moved out so I could have money for a deposit on an apartment, furniture, and money for whatever else I needed the 8k for. Oh, and I grew up an only child and military brat. But I was very aware of my Black & Hispanic -ness even though my phenotype says 'Black Girl'! I have been called an oreo, but that's a them problem. I spoke 4 languages back when i was a young lady, now almost 6. I've been called uppity because of my degrees. But, hey. We live in a weird world. We can't control other people. I think Kelly has some serious identity issues. But, to each his own. Some people don't mind watching a train wreck in slow motion... except, she's the train wreck.

Kelly Stamps is a super awesome black woman. She has every right to be herself and use her freedom of speech in a free country. I love that she's in love with her Christian faith, her being conservative is completely okay, and it's completely fine that she loves white men. When a black woman like Kelly Stamps doesn't fit into the typical black woman mold, people start to hate. I personally agree with everything she's said as a black woman myself. The same people who complain how black people are not a monolith are the same people who get angry seeing a black woman like Kelly Stamps. The same people who praise growth and change are the same people who are angry seeing Kelly Stamps grow and change. I think the human race as a whole is hypocritical.
@jamiev55123 ай бұрын
I liked her originally because she was a a more free spirited young Black woman who did what she wanted. But, I noticed there were small hints of not seeming to like her own people much and not wanting any association with being Black. I’m not saying she needed to be some crusader for her people, but there’s a difference between Black women who are totally free and defy stereotypes than those who actually don’t like their selves of their people. She doesn’t like her people much. I get her experience of not feeling Black enough and being bullied, but do other races who are bullied by their people hate their own people? No. Those videos she made with other Black KZbinrs seemed so forced. There’s normally a natural beautiful bond and mutual understanding when two Black women come together, but something about Kelly’s vibe always seemed off compared to how she is when she meets with whites, Asians, etc. she doesn’t like her people. I get her background growing up, but there are plenty of Blacks (we’re from the same general area) who have the same experience and still have love for their true selves, and then there are those like Kelly who stray away from her people. Then the whole woke Christian thing. It is soooooo obviously fake and a publicity stunt! I’m not against Christian’s, as I follow some real ones who you just know are true believers and leaders (though I am not actually Christian) and she’s just so obviously fake. It’s not jealousy or hatred on my end as a unique Black women who was also called Oreo (however I was not at all bullied and was pretty and I owned my uniqueness) but she’s just not genuine and needs to reflect. Now, I don’t know Jenna. But her talking about Kelly who is an anti Black women, does not make Jenna anti Black. That would mean you’re anti Black for simply talking about Kelly if that’s the case.She does seem jealous and a bit weird though. But I wouldn’t call Jenna anti Black based off these clips. I’m pretty open minded, but you can tell when KZbinrs aren’t genuine and Kelly is not the leader she tries to make herself out to be. She needs to return to her vlogs and skits and not try to give anyone advice on such heavy topics because she does not have the credibility or wisdom to do so. She’s all over the place. I hope she matures and loves her true self. Last thing: paying rent when living with your parents is not bad. Adult children are so whiny nowadays. You need to learn responsibility and help your parents. It’s more challenging than parents make it look. However, if your parent allows you to stay with them while you’re actually working and actually saving (not being a bum) than that’s good too. But adult children should not expect crap. Grow up!

Ngl, through the first part of the video I thought it was gonna be nitpicky and her jokes that you showed at the beginning seemed more like satire but then as the video progressed I understood more of why you said she is anti-Black and also self-reflected on some things cuz I have been guilty of having similar ideas to her due to being called straight up white and growing up in a mostly white private school for 13 yrs. Not to compare experiences, but I think it’s worse hearing stuff like that in childhood cuz you don’t know a whole lot about race and ppl just calling you white simply because you’re in an environment you didn’t even choose to be in and have no say so over. I was never a huge fan of hers and only saw a couple of her vids yrs ago but I found her relatable and funny also being a “quirky” Black girl myself. I’m very grateful that you thoroughly critiqued her without attacking her Blackness (cuz let’s be real, calling somebody white or an Oreo isn’t constructive and won’t get them to change). I watched another video about her and saw the last clip with her talking about the dark-skinned Black woman “trauma-dumping” and thought that was dismissive because ppl just naturally feel more comfortable with ppl who look like them or are a part of the same community as them; I’ve noticed personally, I gravitate more towards Black ppl even in mostly white environments and strangers sometimes give a head nod for simply acknowledgement. And I will also say as a lighter-skinned Black woman, I feel I have had an easier time being around white ppl cuz I haven’t gotten backhanded compliments like “you’re pretty for a black girl” and have been complimented on my appearance (hair and skin tone) by Black and white ppl. I acknowledge even if I still experience racism, I don’t have the same experience as someone who is darker than me and am not the butt of colorist jokes. It may be a trauma response, but it is no excuse to put down other Black ppl cuz while being told you’re not Black enough definitely hurts and it is like being an outcast amongst outcasts, it is nothing like being treated like a sub-human or micro aggressions from white ppl. I will say, it definitely hurts having other Black ppl (especially if it’s your own family) attack your Blackness just to go to a mostly white environment (school for me before) and have white ppl pretend to not be racist, but treat you differently which lets you know you fit in nowhere. (Thankfully, things have improved for me entering adulthood so far being in college).
