Would this replace a rod weeder?

Brett, I believe so. Like a rod weeder the plants will be left on the surface to die. Unlike a rod weeder the operation is fast, cheap and maintenance free.

Shane Kelly Ok, I was looking for a disc to break grass. I think this with Brutes heaviest chain would do the job, but I'm also looking at changing the chains with lighter ones to act as a discer and a rod weeder. How difficult is it to replace chains, and what are some ways other farmers have gone about it?

Quite a few customers will buy 1.5 sets of discs. A full set of the CL1 discs and a front half set of CL2 cutting discs. A bolt at each end of the gang is all it takes to swap chains. The same principal applies with any of the sets. A full set of SD (spiked disc) and a front half set of CL2 will give you all the flexibility and versatility you need.

how good of a weed killer is it?

If I was seeding a cover in the Fall I was worried the CL2 would bury too deep. But In the Spring want to be able to kill weeds too before planting

Experience so far suggests Fall seeding with CL2 to be quite safe. The ground tends to be firmer and residue heavy. The action mixes seed near the surface rather than turning it under. I can put you in touch with a few guys who sowed their cover crops last Fall with Cl2.
