I am so proud of Ms. Amanda Gorman's history making. As a Blackman, as a Veteran, and as a Poetry writer for more then 40 years, another Intelligent black mind subjected to a phrase call, (Brain Drain) at such young age, taken from one culture and placed in the ruling culture, it brings such sadness to me, now at 67 years old, her words tell me that she truly love her people, but history tells me other wise. (The Brain Drain)."
@bizness-as-usual-583 жыл бұрын
Taken from one culture and placed in the 'ruling' culture?? What nonsense! No one has taken Ms. Gorman anywhere. Through hard work, determination and the setting of personal goals and aspirations, she is taking herself to places she wants to go and people who perceive her value will provide her with opportunities of a lifetime. She is a Black woman, but she's also much more than that. She is beautiful, Ivy League educated, articulate, has the drive necessary to overcome obstacles (read: speech impediment), and she is an American. That's her culture. Quite frankly, it is damn refreshing to see and hear a young Black woman speak with such passion and ELOQUENCE which caused her to be noticed and invited by first lady Biden to the inauguration. At the tender age of 22, what she is is a beacon shining on top of the hill and it is not yet evident what she will become.

@bizness-as-usual-583 жыл бұрын
@Zaynab bint Al-Harith you certainly gave me a good laugh. You said "lots of people have speech impediments big deal." As a matter of fact, it is a big deal. For everyone who grows up struggling to overcome a speech disorder, it's a big deal for them and their families. They also have to overcome the social ostracism they can receive from some classmates which includes being ignored, teased, bullied and/or laughed at because of their speech patterns. It doesn't matter how well a school is funded. The math, reading, spelling, social studies or arts & sciences teachers do not have the specialized training required to work with special needs children. That would be a speech language pathologist (aka speech therapist). This is where I began to laugh at you until tears came. In my entire life I've never been called a racist and for those who actually know me, they would not associate that term with me at all. But, based on your twisted logic, I like Ms. Gorman's poem just because she's black. So, you're also implying that I must dislike both the poem and her because she's black to not be racist. Why you drew that conclusion I neither know nor care to know. Pointless, really. That you, to whom my comments were not directed, became so triggered by them that you resorted to name-calling, simply means that no one should expect any meaningful discourse to come from you.
@bizness-as-usual-583 жыл бұрын
