I have an old recording of a guy introducing an unknown Norah Jones at a bar. People booed as they wanted the main act to come on. By the end of her singing 'Tennessee Waltz', the cheers were deafening.

I love Norah. I know this is kind of an unspoken truth about celebrity culture these days (I mean even the numbers on these KZbin videos is pretty reflective of how much society is shifting to care less about these people), but Norah is just one of those people who has managed to escape some of the worst pitfalls of being a "famous" person and maintained her character, integrity and dignity in these past 2 decades. I will always care about really good people like her... seriously, what a gift to the world.

She is not just my favourite thing in all of music. She's my favourite person, full stop. If I ever have children and one or more of them are girls, I would try to subtly influence them to idolise Norah Jones. She's SO freaking cool. Seen her twice live, but I fear if I ever actually met her I might hug her just a "little" too tightly. Scared of hurting her accidentally. It's a real fear. Kind of odd actually, I'm desperate to one day meet her but scared to the pit of my stomach at the merest possibility that I could... [Tries to put the serious fanboying back out of sight...]

@@Seetha-Golden Hm. Fun fact. Did you know that only 2 members of the HB played an active role in the creation of the debut album? Specifically, there was no HB when CAWM was made. Adam Levy and Lee Alexander both have multiple credits on CAWM, but the number of musicians who played a part is much bigger than just those 2. As for Andrew Borger, he doesn't get a credit because he was around, but not an active presence. The drums were split between Dan Reiser and Brian Blade. The latter of whom could be seen as the "hidden" member of the HB. Andrew Borger would take his place, because BB was a highly sought after drummer, and continues to be to this day. Which basically means that Andrew Borger was a fill in for a drummer who had too many commitment's. Borger is even known to have stated he needed to learn how to play in the "style" of Brian Blade.

Clarkson seems to be gushing just a bit there. Yea, your right to gush, girl, that's the REAL DEAL just a foot or so away from you. The brilliant musician who gave YOU your in. She's the reason you had a career in music to begin with. And before any Clarkson fans jump rabidly at me, let me clarify. It's not just Kelly who owe Norah their starts. It's MOST singer/songwriters who came about in the mid 2000's or so. Norah Jones re-popularised the singer/songwriter category in the music industry. A category that had grown jaded and stale, with too many general music fans believing that typical jazz acts such as Diana Krall as example, had become too "high brow" and unaccessable, while typical country acts such as Shania Twain, had become almost a meme, and were drifting more towards pop and the usual "sex sells" mentality of the so called mainstream. And then Norah came along. Expecting very little from her debut album, in fact it's a known fact she got on the phone to Bruce Lundvall back when CAWM reached about a million in record sales, and she asked him to STOP it. She was hopeful of maybe 10,000 album sales. But it didn't stop at the number which scared her, just kept going and going until by the time a year had gone by, her debut reached near 17 million records sold. [A world record at the time which lasted for 9 years] Naturally after that many record labels started courting singer/songwriters. The like's of Jamie Cullen, Katie Melua, Kelly Clarkson and yes, even such as Taylor Swift, owe that wonderful singer a debt of gratitude, because one way or another, none of them would have had a major in, without her.

Kelly Clarkson is a pop star. She has written some songs, but she is not in the same category as Norah Jones. Kelly won American Idol the same year as Come Away With Me was released and her own first hit album, Thankful was released a year later. Nothing about her early work is at all similar to Norah Jones. Kelly is not the singer/songwriter kind of chick. She's far more country/rock/pop/R&B influenced. Norah Jones success opened the door for Sara Bareilles perhaps. Someone equally talented as a songwriter, musician and vocalist.

@@TombCat You can make whatever arguments you like. It won't alter the reality that in that interview, Kelly Clarkson is fawning all over Norah Jones. She is HERO WORSHIPPING hard. And for the record, I never categorised Clarkson. But she IS a singer/songwriter. [She's wrote a few songs and she sings, simple as] It's not a category, it's a over-arching term, an umbrella. I agree that she's pop. But instead of category, I'd use the word "league". again based on this interview, it's quite obvious Jones is in a much bigger league to Clarkson. [Kelly's body language shows that] As to your claim that a groomed soon to be pop star winning a talent show, is comparable to a total unknown, a "nobody" in music, selling 17 million albums in one year. Don't be ridiculous. One of them was fashioned and taught to be a pop star. The other, made an album she hoped would break 10,000 copies yet 365 day's later, was one of the biggest names in music. Which brings us to the closer, WHY many aspiring musicians at the time, owed their starts to Norah. It was BECAUSE of what she achieved, against her own expectations, against the odds, against what "should" make sense. She redefined what "making it" meant. And she made being a musician, cool again. Norah Jones is truly and completely deserving of the word, idol, no wonder Clarkson's fawning so hard.

Are you just randomly smelling smoke or is it a smell of smoke in someone’s clothes. The smell of smoke can linger for a long time. And when you’re highly sensitive to it, you can smell it from a distance and be overwhelmed by the smell on other peoples clothes, even when they’re 5 feet from you.
