We all know faux caligraphy, but to train it directly with a brush pen (my words to explain it) is a new way for me. I have the same problem like you: i release to late! At the first moment I was confused and sceptical (my english isn‘ the best, so I don‘t understand your explainations all in a correct way). I was confused, cause I thought you use the other side of your Brushpen (just like a pen from tombow with a brushtip and a normal pen tip) cause your pen runs out of the Screen. I had to understand First you are using the brushpen Tip all the time (except for the black markers) 🤣 In the end I practised 2 DIN 4 sheets full of over- and underturns, as well as compound curves. Result: i got a better feeling for my pen and it was possible for me to create the turns and curves in two squares instead of three (which you suggested (it wasnt my Intention it was a Little mistake). So i come to the conclusion: your video helped me a lot! Thank you so much!! Lovely greetings from Germany

I’ve watched a lot of your videos but I don’t ever remember hearing about the “triangle” so I must’ve missed that one! Lol I didn’t realize you’re suppose to release so soon especially on under & overturns so yes this is a good exercise

So I just started calligraphy but clearly not practicing as much as I should. I'm left hand and I'm struggling with my underturns and overturns. When I'm doing the U I just seem to struggle alot on that. This video helps alot. If I can make a suggestion. Your camera is too far away from the paper if it's possible to bring it down a bit more so that we are able to see a closer look at it. As well, anyway you can do a tutorials on doing underturns drill only with close up??

Sorry, me again. 🙄 when I’m trying to make something for someone, let’s say their name for example, see how in your tutorial when your pen has to go over a place for a second time it shows up as a darker line? What can you do to prevent that or make it look better? It’s unavoidable when your connecting your strokes or trying to fix a small bauble. Does doing it on different paper help? It doesn’t look so bad when you’re properly connecting your strokes but if you are trying to make your downstroke a little thicker or trying to fix a little mistake it then starts to look messy to me.

Because brush pens are water based, when your lines or strokes overlap, the layer will appear darker. Depending on the colour, these darker areas will usually show up unless you are writing with black or a really dark colour of ink. With certain strokes and letters, like ascending and descending loops, you can stop at the thick stroke and 'jump' across instead of drawing a line across (think of exiting the letter 'y')
