I know this is a joke, but you really shouldnt discuss this unless you really know what you are saying. Before Trump social security, medicare, medicaid, CHIP, and affordable health care act recieved way way way way more money than the defense. National Guard is part of the defense budget. The National Guard is deployed to every single major natural disaster in the US and the personel doesnt work for free. The National Guard also go to other countries who had a natural disaster if and only if the foreign government is ok with it. In 2005 hurricane Wilma hit my area really really bad. The National Guard came to help my campus police. The guards "post" was checking id at the 30 different entrances we had. If you didnt belong on campus you werent allowed on campus. At night they would help walk with students to their car or dorm. They were at our campus for 3 months. This all cost money. For just my campus it cost taxpayer $20,000. Again this was just my campus and for just 3 months and for just 1 hurricane. For 2020 a lot of defense money went into helping with Corona virus. The US used Navy Ships and doctors to help with the cases. Again this costs money. Navy personel dont work for free.
@nadinagebert36444 жыл бұрын
@@jessicaely2521 I'm confused about several things. What's a campus police? And why is it checking the entrances or why aren't some people allowed on campus? Also: If hurricanes hit the USA that often, wouldn't it be better to put more money in preparations instead of guards to protect people from, I have really no idea from what... Looters? (Sorry, but this sounds like apocalyptic proportions to me) I think it's good that the US Navy helped during Corona, but again, wouldn't it be better to prepare the Healthcare Department with the money instead of solving every problem with the military as last resort?
@jessicaely25214 жыл бұрын
@@nadinagebert3644 campus police is police that only patrols the University grounds and outer edges. You have to think about Universities as small cities in the US. If you do this its just a city police department. Since global warming is happening hurricanes are becoming stronger and stronger and stronger. They are also becoming wetter. You dont know how to prepare for something when you never ever seen the strength before. You cant build something you dont have the capability for. Power is always knocked out after hurricanes. There is no way around this. If Europe had strong hurricanes their power would be knocked out also. Majority of Europe would actually have more damage to street lamps, stop and go lights, signs, etc than the US. Yes I have traveled Europe and you lamp posts, stop and go lights, etc arent strong whatsoever. When a hurricane snaps a concrete lamp post in half little metal street lamps arent going to hold up to the power of a hurricane. Hurricanes does damage over a gigantic space. For example the hurricane I was talking about in the post... You had to get in your car and drive 7 hours before you found a place that had power. At this time there was only 1 place in the entire US that made light poles, stop lights, traffic signs, etc. This particular year the US was hit by a record number of hurricanes. The business that supplies these things was overwhelmed. Now they have around 10. They are building more. You have to have people that are willing to make and sell street signs, traffic lights, etc. Now for the corona thing. The ships were only there to provide space for beds. Hospitals had plenty of medical personnel. Hospitals just didnt have the space. Tax payers have to pay for gasoline, electricity, water, cooks, etc. It isnt free to run a ship. Hospital campuses generally fill up their entire property will buildings or parking lots. You cant magically make an entire building appear. Also hospitals arent going to build a building that sits empty for 99.9% of the time. Its way way way way to expensive to do that. Think about this. The last gigantic flu pandemic was 100 years ago. Swine flu, bird flu, all the other pandemics didnt affect as many people. My point here is you arent going to let a building sit empty for 100 years.

It's true that Germans can be way too serious when they are supposed to be having fun (especially in the south). I am a chatty person from the Upper Midwestern USA and learned to speak fluent German before I got here but found it extremely difficult to make friends and date those first few months here in Stuttgart. Something that never ever, ever happened to me anywhere else -- is when attempting small talk at a bar or club someone would tell me that they haven't come out to talk but only want to sit alone in 'Ruhe' (in silence). I mean -- don't people go out to have fun and isn't light conversation with strangers a part of that? I soon learned to respect the Swabian art of distancing because sometimes such people were so overjoyed to be meeting an American that I couldn't get rid of them ~!! Americans may be superficial at times but we have the art of speaking with strangers down to a science. I mean, in Milwaukee (and Ireland and Italy, too) -- if someone doesn't care to have company at the bar they will deflect you with finesse -- like making a joke or looking at their watch or something to give you a hint. They don't just tell you in monotone 'I do not vant it speaking wit you at dis time... " (Sigh).

As a German in France I am fed up by "comment ca va?" (how are you) and the reply has to be (at least I got the impression during my stays in the US) "fine". Once a friend of me heard the following conversation in a hotel in NY: Lady 1 "how are you?" Lady 2 "my father passed away this night" Lady 1 "oh, fine, fine....". Since I heard this my standard answer is "bad". This creates interesting conversations or stupid replies "but no, you are well". Jerk, if you know how I am, why do you ask?...

We had such a weirdo in my group of friends in high school. No filter at all, weirdly condescending and negative for no reason and seemingly always trying to make everyone around him uncomfortable. He was a super late child. His parents were in their late 40s when they had him and they just spoiled him and let him get away with everything. They treated him more like a grandchild than like their actual son. I don't really know why we hung out with him. He just tagged along and we all just shrugged and accepted it. Also, sometimes we were amused by his antics. He would just walk up to girls at parties and tell them that they were fat and stuff like that. One time, he and another guy had a female class mate over at his house. They played strip poker and made her drunk. No statutory rape happened, thank god, but only because she puked all over his bed room carpet. He forced her to clean his room before she was allowed to leave. I think he was a genuine psychopath, or something like that. When we graduated, I broke off contact to him, but I met him again 2 or 3 years later. He was on the run from Turkish loan sharks from whom he had borrowed money to pay for expensive private Kung Fu lessons. Last thing I heard of him was that he runs a online store where he sells books about "White Magic" and dream catchers and stuff like that.

Too funny. In some ways it is good to know that social ineptitude and dating cluelessness transcends cultures. Plus, you have a good story. All I know is that if the topic of defense budgets comes up at a first date it is either going really badly or extremely well.

Haha! Definitely have a good story from it. And I think you’re totally right about that topic signaling either a really bad or really good date

Kelly, we´re so happy that you met Micha and everything worked out well! The problem is, independent from any country, race, religion or whatever, there´s always (more or less) the same share of idiots and assholes in EVERY population! So we´re really happy that you experienced that there also is a proper share of good guys in Germany!

oh we certainly all do have the same share of both good and bad :) thanks for watching and for the comment!

You're too young to have experienced AOL dating.....now that was the stuff that nightmares are made of! I had dates with married women looking to cheat on their husbands to one weirdo that ate an entire three course meal (including a Caesar salad) with her fingers. The absolute worst was the woman on antidepressants that had a glass of red wine and had a bad reaction to the dangerous combination! One minute she was laughing and the next she was crying, all while telling me minute details of her divorce!
@FabFunty4 жыл бұрын
I met one of the AOL cheating wives. She even drove 550 km one way trough half of Germany to met me, even she was living just 100 km away from Munich a city with a population over 1.4 million people. So I was willing (and desperate enough) to believe her story that she & her 4 year old daughter was living in divorce for over 3 years but now officially in separation year. But suddenly, short before my birthday were I planed to visit the 2, she decided she'll try to work it out again with her (ex?) husband after 4 years 🙄

I was always wondering about this term "date". "Dating? Not everyone has to find a partner. Not everyone has to have a baby. Not everyone has to have been in Japan. Happiness is individual.

I was on a double date and coming back from the restroom to the table in a restaurant, everyone was on their way to the car and I was told by the guy that they had already paid and all I had to do was put in my share of the bill in (my wife already contributed). I calculate it out and it was seriously low, so I put in enough to cover more than my share and the whole tip. I was pretty annoyed but I waited and complained to my wife later that she had not tipped at all - it turns out she put in a generous tip and the other couple actually stole the money off the table. That was the last time I saw them or spoke to them. People show you who they are by how they treat those around them. They always talked in the past about how they don't really tip unless the waiter is somehow psychically aware that their glass has been empty for no less than 30 seconds and fills it back up but I never thought they would steal money from us.

@Kellydoesherthing4 жыл бұрын
Yeah it was almost like he was making it a point to try and make me feel like an idiot for being American. It was truly awful haha made me quite a bit more paranoid about being an American in Germany. Happy you enjoyed the video!
@peterpain66254 жыл бұрын
@@Kellydoesherthing You're definitely not an idiot. I know all those amusing little prejudices as i am usually mistaken for an american abroad ;) I never know what part of my mixed heritage is either amused or insulted :D No seriously... People tend to put all americans in the same drawer with those 'murrica-f-yeah red-bbcap yokels. I don't know your political affiliation but i am quite sure you could defend it. I never used a dating app for anything serious - but i do have tinder on my phone, mostly for when i am bored to swipe people around (and never reply). Friends as in possible boyfriends/partners .. that was and still is something i get to know from other friends. We go out, they introduce each other .. (sometimes with clear intent) - and you get to know each other. Politics, sex, religion and culture - topics i had quite a few possible friends come up with on the first 1 on 1 meeting. I have to admit that i do like that that way though. I actually do base "compatibility" on the persons political and social views. I would hate to be with someone that might be gorgeous looking and a catch .. but a right-wing voter. While in my experience many Germans are forthcoming when it comes to topics to converse about ... they are awefully slow to get past the friendship part /commitment part. Takes German guys waaay too long to submit to a partnership in my experience - which is limited. Also, i 100% agree to avoid Kevins .. or any other "trend" name for that matter

Hitler and his driver run over a pig, while driving through Poland. Hitler sends a soldier to tell the owner that the owner. The soldier return after a while with presents from the owner. Hitler asked him what he said to the owner. The soldier answered: "I said 'Heil Hitler, the pig is dead' " (I don't know if "pig" is a usual insult in the USA but in Germany it is. So the owner thought the soldier is talking about Hitler)
