I just stumbled across you guys. Listen - what you said at 12 mins in about just getting up off your ass and doing something epic - that's a fist in the air Fuck Yes hold my beer war cry if ever I heard one. Take a bow - brilliant! I've watched a few more of your vids and the way you guys have the two pronged approach to this is incredible - Rich is buzzing off the sounds and the fact that he knows what's about to happen, then when it does the satisfying 'my work here is done' smile, followed by Kel's heartfelt but informative analysis of what this music does for people backed up by her clear technical expertise in all things musical is what this shit is all about. Rock on guys - much love from Ireland.

The Call Of Ktulu is a Metal instrumental classic. Metallica's bassist (deceased) Cliff Burton was a Classical Music aficionado & used to encourage the rest of the band to listen to Bach & Mahler. It certainly shows in the way they wrote their early albums. As for growling vocals, well, Metal always has had a tendency to explore the dark side of the human psyche & to navigate such difficult and different ideas (from the mainstream, anyway), the vocals create a certain atmosphere that is unique. I suggest that you listen (and react) to Insomnium's latest masterpiece 'Pale Morning Star', which will help you overcome the abrasive texture of growling. The song is a modern masterpiece, musically, lyrically and is simply beautiful and pure.

Oh man, she's crying. 'Cause, yes, it's that great! And to make this more special, this was Cliff Burton's favorite Metallica song. I'm almost 43. Been listening to these songs since the 80's and grew deep into it when I hit my teens in the 90's, got a drum kit and wanted to be a rock star. I love music, all types of music. I live it and breathe it. And when I see people have such deep passionate reactions like this to the music I love, it really hits my sentimental side and tells me how special it truly is. I'm so blessed to have had these years of music and the life I've had around it.

This was the first metal song I heard as a teenager in the 80s. I was a big fan of H P Lovecraft's writing at the time, and also a big fan of Dungeons & Dragons, but I'd just moved to a new city and didn't know anyone who played D&D. Then I made a friend who was into both, who introduced me to another friend of like mind and we started a Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay game that lasted for all of high school. Musically I was a blank slate - didn't really have any idea of what I liked for myself. Kinda knew what I didn't really like, but no really strong opinions in any direction. Then one of my new friends learned I liked Lovecraft and said "listen to this Metallica song called Call of Ktulu" to which I was like "eww metal?". Because to me at that time "metal" meant Bon Jovi or Poison, which I couldn't stand. This is the track that changed all of that. This was the first time I understood that metal could contain real talent and ability. And I was hooked.

As an analog writer/percussionist, nothing makes me more disgusted that most music these days are put together by hitting 3-10 keys on a computer and having someone sing to it. I know I'm late to the party here, I'm just now discovering your channel. But let me just say, not only has this music been a staple in my upbringing, and by my own choice. I grew up listening to my dad's classic rock all my young life and could name every band that came on the radio bc he'd always ask after the 1st 2 seconds of any song "Who's this?" Lol but I chose to venture out past that genre bc my ear wanted something thicker, a little more muscle in the tone. And Metallica was the gateway drug when I was 13. Call of Ktlulu, Orion, To Live is to Die....those were my go-to songs to show others that it's not all screaming and beating on detuned guitars. These guys were barely 22 years old when they recorded this. The degree of talent to play at such a high level and being that young always amazed me. I absolutely love your reactions to this music. Bc you already have a mind for music, although a much different sound, but equally as complicated, your senses for what well played music sounds like are already tuned for it. Like you said, without the classics, nothing would be what it is today. For the most part, music like this is rarely produced anymore and if so, with little recognition. Thank you for opening your mind and ears to these masterpieces. This is what the metal community really is all about. Uniting us all as one with the power of music 🤘🤘🤘

Well Kel, here in Portugal we have a saying that fully applies to your speech at the end "Quem fala assim não é gago" which translates to "Whoever speaks like that isn't a stutterer". It's a saying for whoever speaks their mind must be heard... I don't really know to whom it was but I really hope those people hear you. And I loved the energy you transmitted during the song, because it's been extremely rare to find reactions where the reactor really cares about the instrumental part of metal songs. Most of the reactions from those that were into other genres I've seen around youtube are, almost ever, reacting to the singer instead of the whole piece. So it was really refreshing.
