I own this pack. I bought it for my hike-in fly fishing camping trips, when I need more volume. My old pack was 82L and weighed about 7 lbs. So this Kelty Coyote 105L feels lighter, by comparison. And I get at least 20L more. Now all my gear fits in the main compartment without me having to strap stuff to the daisy chains. Most people do thru-type hiking and backpacking. But if you wanna do extended trips, or set a nice basecamp with lots of gear, it's a good pack. I thought it was comfortable with a heavy load, too. Maybe I'll post a review on my blog.

I used to use an osprey, then I switched to this pack when I started taking my little kids backpacking, cuz I had to carry their stuff as well. Despite the osprey being twice the price, this thing is way more comfortable. Plus you can potentially take this thing winter camping room for all that bulky cold weather gear, I love it.

Just stumbled onto your Coyote 105 review from a peripheral search. I still have and use my customized 1996 made Red Cloud 110, provided to my 1996 Mosquito Coast Sea Kayak Expedition by the Kelty company. I and my other expedition member used these super robust pro backpacks in some of the World's harshest jungle in remote far eastern Honduras, 28 years ago. I still own that Red Cloud today, and its 100% serviceable today. On the Mosquito Coast expe, we loaded these packs with 56 to 70 LBS of gear. Full disclosure: Kelty was one of the several gear supporters to our expedition.

Thank you for the straightforward no BS review - I went through about 5 other reviews until I found your's which finally opened the main compartment to show exactly how large it is and how it's layed out. I don't know why people make reviews and don't open the bag to show the inside.

First, I love my Coyote 105 liter backpack. The weight to me is not a con. You get a well made pack that will handle bushwhacking off trail without being torn up. The pack as you said, handles a bigger load without killing your back or shoulders.

I have this pack and love it. I'm 51, 6'1", 245 lbs so a 5 to 6 pound pack doesn't bother me. for my use, hiking less than 15 miles to get to camp area for hunting and fishing for multiple days at a time...perfection. I can carry everything I need and generally load out around 40-45Lbs with food and water. I wouldn't use this to thru hike the AT but for my use it's absolutely adequate. Great review.

Good review. I love my Coyote 105; this is my second season with it. When I use a bear can it fits nicely; I’m sure I could get away with a smaller pack, but I love the fact that I don’t have to play Tetris every time I pack; I just drop everything in and I’m done. Great pack

I just bought one of these Iv got big plans for it. Weight is not an issue if it’s comfortable. My wife is ver small framed and can not carry as much gear. So I will carry more than the average hiker. Can’t wait!!

It’s a great choice. Closest I could find to replace my 1990’s pack, nearly identical just not canvas. I’ve only put about 100 miles on this one packed about 45 lbs. it’s a great pack. Very comfortable. Hope you’re enjoying yours

I run an Arcteryx khard 45 and unloaded that thing is about 4.5lbs so for this to be double the size, almost triple for just a lb more, I don’t see it as con to be honest. Gonna pick one up to try one myself for a weekend sustainment trip. Thanks for making this video haha

Ha ha warm& fuzzy thats a great line agree with that dumb hip-belt mesh pocket had my gps ..briefly ..in there and it did ..not ..feel warm n fuzzy. Agree also with the sleeping bag compartment wish was zippered off. This pack w the right coupon can be had in the $160’s and there s no way you’re getting anything of this quality & comfort at that price Great review enjoyed it.

I for one have been stuffing 70-80 lbs into my kelty coyote 80, I welcome an additional 25 liters to load all the important things that I NEED to bring with, that I somehow never use.

Thanks for the detailed review. What are some of the other comparable packs you’ve tried? I’m considering the Coyote, but I’m a wildlife photographer and am looking for a pack that will let me load my 15lbs of camera gear high on my back, and that also has a panel opening that lets me get to the camera storage unit quickly. My gear is stored in an fStop Large ICU (it’s a pretty big rectangle.) Think of me as the equivalent of a marine radio operator 😊 Cheers Tom

How much does this pack synch down? Can it compress to the size of a 65L pack?
@AnotherDayInTheWoods
@AnotherDayInTheWoods 6 ай бұрын
It goes down pretty good. I don't know if it will synch down to a 65L. There will be quite a bit of looseness within the pack (which could make for a miserable hike). But, depending on how far you are going, it might not be that big of a deal for you...

What are some of the longer hikes and pack weights you've used this on?
@AnotherDayInTheWoods
@AnotherDayInTheWoods 2 жыл бұрын
I usually run about 40 pounds, but as much as 60, depending on how many days I'm planning on staying out. I do most of my hiking in rough, mountain terrain, so I take a lot of breaks to avoid injury and fatigue about every 2 to 3 miles. Most hikes tend to be around 10 to 12 miles.

The Kelty 2020 models for the Coyote Redcloud and Redwing are all lack luster comparing them to the previous years. Kelty totally dropped the ball on this Coyote design deleting so many great features. It seems Mystery Ranch is the only other option. Kelty please resolve these issues, keep making packs with a detachable crown with 2 storage compartments, waist belt zippered pockets two on each side, beefy internal storage compartments with closures, water bladder compartment with a hard foam barrier along with a wetsuit material liner, shoulder straps with D rings and some other mounting points. The Coyote, Redcloud and Redwing should stay focused on long term, expeditions for hardcore users and not for those who hike while talking on their cell phones.

@landminehopscotch3617 2 жыл бұрын
@Apollo You're not going to get all things for $180 bucks. Kelty products have been lackluster at best, but you're talking about packs that are top tier. You'd have to look elsewhere like Eberlestock, Mystery Ranch, HPG, Kifaru etc. and you'd be paying 3x as much.
@HIPPIETHUG92109

I disagree in regards to Kelty not providing top quality products.. The Kelty Falcon is a superior long term pack alongside with the previous generation Redcloud. Every manufacture you mentioned has some shortcomings, nobody that I've come across makes the perfect pack regardless of cost. Thanks for the reply 🤙

Can I put 200+ pounds of DEER OR ELK meat in it, and it HOLD the weight without ripping apart??? I think, I can put a complete elk "ham" in it. That's 75 to 100 pounds.... Can I put a rifle in the side strap to hold my rifle, or do I STRAP my rifle to the outside?
@AnotherDayInTheWoods
@AnotherDayInTheWoods 11 ай бұрын
I wouldn't put 200lbs in it. I haven't tested the maximum load, but I have had 65 pounds in it with no problem. There are a lot of rifles out there, but I'm guessing most would fit behind the side pockets nicely.
