Is Kemadruma really Greek Kenodromia ("Void of Course") ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The names of these yogas are likely standardized mispronunciations (or simplified pronunciations) of more grammatically correct forms. The difficulty in getting obvious direct translations from these standardized mispronunciations leads people to speculate that at least one of them (kemadruma) is imported from Greek. Although some terms and concepts of Indian astrology are undeniably Greek imports (“kendra, apoklima, phanaphara”, for example), my opinion is that the four yogas currently under discussion are not. The phonemes of kemadruma are certainly similar to the Greek term kenodromia, but there are two important reasons we should not conclude that kemadruma is actually an Indian pronunciation of kenodromia. Firstly, kemadruma is part of a very tightly related four-yoga family. The name for it should therefore be tightly integrated with the names of the other three yogas it is so closely related to. If it is an import of Greek kenodromia, we should expect to see similar Greek analogs for dhurudhurā, sunaphā, and ānaphā - but, as far as I know, we do not. Secondly, the astronomy of kenodromia is not particularly similar to the astronomy of kemadruma. The greek concept is a condition occurring when the moon makes no aspect to any planets (and will not do so for the rest of its progress through its sign, or the next 30° of its course). This bears little, if any, similarity to kemadruma - which is about the moon not having the company of planets in the preceding or following zodiac sign. Here is a simpler explanation of how these yogas are named. They are based on whether planets follow or lead the moon. Hence the first two yogas are named with the root pha, which means “to bring out” (as commonly seen in phala, “fruit”). The first yoga is to have a planet following the moon. It is named, essentially, su-phā: one who “nicely” (su-) “brings” (pha). In other words, one who brings in a supportive way. In other words, one who follows. The second yoga is to have a planet leading the moon. It is named, essentially, ā-phā: one who “proactively” (ā-) “brings” (pha). In other words, one who leads. Either of the two yogas grants the moon a particular type of stability (dhruva). The third yoga is to have stability on both sides. It is named, essentially, dhruva-dhruva. The fourth yoga is the opposite of the third. Stabilizers are on neither side. It is named, kena-dhruva: “stabilized” (dhruva) “by what?” (kena). This explanation is fairly simple and very descriptive of the actual astronomy of the yogas being named. Hence it is a better explanation than the idea that kemadruma is actually and Indian version of kenodromia (a significantly different astronomical phenomenon).

Hi Vic, I just wanted to say that these concepts are in fact present in western astrology in a weirdly similar way and maybe related. The concept of planets before and after the moon: these are called the "applications and separations of the moon". These show the basis, root or foundations and the aftermath, result or consequences, respectively. These are extremely important in every type of astrology: in natal charts they show the conditions that support and lead the life, in horary and electional they show the origin and the result of the event. This is even transformed in a type of dasha where the applications and separations of the moon in the days following the birth show different events at different ages. The concept of planets before and after the sun: this is called "phasis" and makes the planet very prominent by it's appearance or disappearance. When a planet is approaching the sun it's going to disappear and it is interpretated as being prominently bad and corrupted. When a planet is leaving the sun is interpretated as prominently good and having a rebirth. However, in the vedic definition, every planet is seen as good in a certain side of the sun and not the other, even though superior planets rise from the sun from the right and set from the left, the moon in the opposite way and mercury and venus do that from both sides. These 2 conditions are related to the visual phenomenon and not the house number in western astrology. I assume this is different in vedic astrology because they have a different aspect theory and because of cultural differences and a different transmission. I suspect that is also why the void of course moon concept is different, it's because aspects and others things are applied or transmitted differently. Planets on both sides of the luminaries: this is called "doryphory" (very similar to the name in the vedic text) or "spear-bearing". This is viewed as the luminaries having "bodyguards" and when in certain configurations it shows prominence and power. The nature of the planet will also influence the interpretation. I'm not saying that the westeners are right and the easteners are wrong or vice versa. What I'm saying is that these concepts do seem to clearly come from the same place, and we should focus on what traditions have in common (because it probably works) and less what what they differ. Love your channel and this series!

Another long comment: Birth chart in hand, massive clarity with surrounding synchronicities on my kemadruma yoga (moon in Pisces). And grateful it is in an angle (7H) and planets Venus/Jupiter (4H) also angleing. The lonely moon can really go off the deep end in what I personally call edging. The need for isolation makes it challenging to maintain relationships as I require complete silence to channel into the cosmos. OH, but my venus anuradha neeeeeeds love but the spiritual kind of love (celibacy for years until it finds me) and in that is one of my biggest inner conflicts which often feels arrid, dry, and desolate . THANK YOU MAESTRO 🔮

In actuality, this behind and forwards etc also converts to a moon yoga if planets are occupying the 2nd and 12th house, loved the session in which thus yoga was analysed...

Wonderful video sir! New to your channel but have a lot to cover now as your content is amazing. About the yogas, Is there an age when these yogas get activated? Or when does it start showing its results?

It should be lifelong, but of course more dominant when the Moon has dashas/sub-dashas and significant transits to it.
