Kemet Blood and Sand - The Review

Kemet is a 2-5 player Area Control, aggressive, points based, war game where players are rushing to be the first player to start their turn with 9 or more victory points, the first player to do so brings glory to their ancient divinity, while the others will left to suffer in defeat!
Blood and Sand is the second edition of this classic area control war game and in this video I am going to give you a full review of Kemet Blood and Sand!
"In Kemet, players each deploy the troops of an Egyptian tribe and use the mystical powers of the gods of ancient Egypt - along with their powerful armies - to score points in glorious battles or through invasion of rich territories. A game is typically played to 8 or 10 victory points, which may be accrued through winning attacks, controlling temples, controlling fully-developed pyramids, sacrificing to the gods, and wielding particular magical powers.
The conquest for the land of Kemet takes place over two phases: Day and Night. During the day, choose an action amongst the nine possible choices provided by your player mat and perform it immediately. Once every player has taken five actions, night falls, with players gathering Prayer Points from their temples, drawing Divine Intervention cards, and determining the turn order before the start of the new day.
As the game progresses, they can use Prayer Points to acquire power tiles. Some of these enroll magical creatures and have them join their troops. In addition to intimidating enemies, these creatures provide special powers!
Detailed miniature components represent the combat units and the supernatural creatures that are summoned to enhance them. Combat is resolved through cards chosen from a diminishing six-card hand and enhanced by bonuses."

A great review! About the pryamid levels visibility, one possible solution is to paint the 2nd level a different, but complimentary color. To help mitigate the "table hog" nature of the game, we put the power tile trays on a 2nd, side table.

You always have 8 Combat cards. When you buy the power tiles that give you a new combat card (Shetyw Barrier or Wrryt Storm in Blood and Sand) you return one of your other cards to the game box.

The solution for the pyramids: They should have made then colored. Each piece should be red, white, blue, black or green. So that you just add layers until it's complete, instead of having all the pieces in light brown and a transluscent piece to signal the color. This way they could have avoided this problem with the 3 and 4 levels being hard to tell apart...

Thanks for the Review. I have a couple more issues and I am disappointed that metagot missed so many opportunities to make this game great. If you make a second edition you should not make those mistakes: - why is the order of the power tiles from 4 to 1 in the sorting box but reversed in the player aids Easy Fix: change the order of the tiles in each box and just get sad when you see the wrongly printed Pyramid each time you take out a power tile. -The attack card which shows the 2 black wounds. We were playing a whole game inflicting those 2 black wounds on the opponent. Terrible iconography in general makes it difficult for new players. No fix for that -box Insert was not big enough to slot the fame points board into the insert. Fix: I was cutting the edges of the insert to accommodate the fame board and the expansion board. -DI card: teleport troops: does it mean that you get an additional teleport action for free and that your troops can walk afterwards? Can troops in general walk after teleporting? Rules are not clear. Other than that, the game is fun but I am just disappointed that Metagot missed so many things.

There are very few times I want to reshoot a review, this is one of those times. There are MULTIPLE rules errors in the rulebook that are coming to light and that is just pure sloppiness in my opinion, especially for a 2nd edition of a game that has been available for years. Thanks for watching!

@@OffTheShelfGameReviews absolutely agree with you. But I think that is an issue with METAGOT in general. Sloppy... If just one person would have play tested the final prototype they would have seen all those issues.... I cannot understand how you can send out a shitty version of the game to backers and say that you will publish a better revised version in the future for retail.....

About your 2nd bullet, you played correctly. Those "black wounds" as you call them can't be blocked. So yes, they are inflicted each time that card is played. About your 4th bullet... The "Teleport for free" simply means you don't pay the normal cost to teleport, which is 2 PP. The cost is clear in the rulebook.

@@bgm-1961 thanks for your answer. The issue was that we inflicted those wounds on the opposite side and not on our own units. We just did not take the minus in consideration. The teleport issue is that it was not clear if you get an additional teleport during your turn. Cheers

Admittedly a true War Gamer will scoff at the label but for the average gamer who doesn't have a GMT section on their shelf, War Game, and Area Control does work. Honesltly I think we need a new Euro-War Game term, I think it is becoming a thing! Thanks for watching!

@@OffTheShelfGameReviews Don't worry about the "If it plays in fewer than 12 hours, I'm not interested" crew. Their narrow definition of war game exists in a dark niche of board gaming that normal people don't engage with. If it's a game about war, it's a war game ;) Very good review, btw! :)
