So true about God given talent. They don't make movies good enough for the actors of old. It's hard to watch new movies with their mediocre characters and computer graphics.

Is there anybody else who can't understand why this handsome, talented, personable man didn't became a star in his own right?
@helenweedon7716
@helenweedon7716 3 жыл бұрын
Maybe because he was a modest man who considered himself to be just doing his job. He certainly never "blew his own trumpet" and seemed to be happy just as he was. He didn't mix very much with the Hollywood set, preferring to be at home with his family and enjoying the company of his "ordinary" friends around the area. He was generous with his time and gave it readily for fund-raisers and his greatest reward was making people smile and laugh, and be happy. He preferred to be a character actor than a star, but maybe this worked against him in a way, because he could disguise his face and voice effectively so people didn't recognise him from one role to the next. There is no doubt that he should be far better remembered today, and recognised by new generations as someone to admire and look up to. There can't have been many people in Hollywood who nobody had a bad word to say about them.

He did singing for a while and then a few words she singing cowboy films. He had a radio show for a short time. Did some military service during WW2. A few John Wayne western movies but not big parts. Was in Mr Roberts, The Killer Shrews and other movies. He had a short lived tv show called Ripcord which I thought was really good. Appeared on all sorts of TV shows as a guest. He had a another tv show called The Yellow Rose after Gunsmoke. Did other tv shows like an appearance on Airwolf, The Heat Of the Night,Code Red. He had an alright career but should have had better roles

I saw Festus and Doc perform at the snake River stampede in Nampa Idaho in about 1960. Ken stole the show of course with his fabulous singing voice. Milburn Stone sang real well too. I was about eight years old when my dad and I sat in the stands together both being huge Gunsmoke fans. My dad passed away in March 2020 and watching this tribute to Ken Curtis brought back memories of the man that was my father, mentor, hero, and best friend that I ever had. When James Arness was having the worst issues with his leg (shot-up in the Anzio landing in WWII), much of the lead role passed to Ken Curtis/Festus. Without him, Gunsmoke would likely have ended 5-10 years earlier.

I was a kid in 50s-60s so I watched every western I could, I always was a big fan of the "sidekicks" like Pancho, Wishbone and Festus..... Not so much the lead characters. They were the much needed comical relief in a serious story. My favorite episodes of Gunsmoke were when Festus would get Doc riled up lol.

He was a great , great, singer, and actor. Saw @ heard him perform at the Western Canadian Finals Rodeo in Edmonton, Alberta, early seventies. What a bueatiful voice he had. Even when I hear his voice in song to this day it still raise's goose bumps. In The Alamo, with Wayne, he plays Captain Dickinson, Col Travis's exc. Officer . In the uncut version he and his co star, I think it was either Joan or Jane O'Brien. They sing a bueatiful bedtime lullaby duet too Asa Wayne in honor of her Birthday. That scene brings tears every time. RIP Ken Curtis you were a true Son OF The, American West. as the song goes, Keep Rolling w/the Tumbling,Tumbling, Tumble Weeds. God Bless. 🎶🎼🎙️🎶🎼🎙️🎶🎙️🎼📣📣📯📺📽️🔫🔫

Thank you for the kind words. We're the same age. I remember waiting for Gunsmoke to come on TV. My favorite TV show. We only had 3 channels to choose from but the shows were all around better quality than what I see on TV today. But that's my personal opinion. We had a console Zenith TV and everyone would take their place in the living room and wait for the show to start. My place was laying on the floor in front of the TV. My job was to reach up and turn down the volume when the commercials came on. Then reach up and turn the volume back up when the show came back on screen. I'm going down memory lane and rambling. I'm glad you enjoyed the video.

I had no idea Ken Curtis had such a voice. This is now my absolute favorite rendition of Tumbling Tumbleweeds. He put in all the nuances and color and depth the song deserves. Perfection!,

His voice is absolutely wonderful. How did he get the role of festus on gunsmoke? I know Amanda Blake and milburn stone sang together. Did they know ken Curtis was a singer? He is so great!

I am absolutely surprised and amazed. I had no idea that the actor on Gunsmoke with a whiny voice had such an amazingly wonderful voice. Ken Curtis must surely have hit it big before James Arness did. Why was this treasure hidden from us who came along after the Sons of the Puoneers? He never sang on Gunsmoke that I can recall.

Hello and thanks for watching. Ken Curtis was absolutely talented. He sang twice on Gunsmoke that I can recall for sure. I couldn't find good enough clips to include them in this tribute. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. -Monty
