Something that's cool to see is opposing defenses fearing the Bills' passing attack. In Allen's first few years he alerted many times to change called running plays into passing plays because opposing defenses were putting 8 men in the box. With the Bills passing/receiving weapons, opposing defenses actually have to focus against the pass now, which will open up that run game.

RB Depth Chart through 2 preseason weeks: RB1 - Motor (decisive decision making, fantastic lateral agility and quickness, durability) RB2 - Moss (physical downfield runner opitimal for goalline work, best at picking up free rushers in pass protection) RB3 - Cook (Best dual-threat RB that can be flexed out wide for mismatches in coverage, elite speed and hands for a RB) RB4 - Blackshear (great combination of all of the above qualities -- ideal for someone inactive until injury to one of the above. Very decisive in zone-blocking schemes) All RBs above, with exception of Cook, seem to finish runs very well-- they use their physicality to milk the last few yards after contact. Need to cut: Duke Williams. Unfortunate because he performed well and I like his contribution in special teams but each of the guys listed fills a specific role and at a high level.

The Bills have good depth. No doubt. But, after seeing the details in the zone blocking scheme laid out in the video, I am convinced that the reason that it appears that the Bills seems to win every play despite the personell is because of the top-notch coaching. The are so few missed assignments and, when it does happen, it's because of the player's lack of ability rather than not knowing what he was supposed to do. The players all seem to know what they are supposed to do every play, including all of the intricate details described in the breakdown. Well done, Kromer!

Great breakdowns! All of this run game talk makse me feel like JA won't be the lead rusher this year. All that said, its obvious when they used josh as a runner in the playoffs JA17 knows how to make RB reads and hit holes like an actual RB lol. That one from the cheifs game where he jumps over the line is probably my fav play of the game.

Erik, why exactly was Kromer unemployed over the last season? I understand a year off can be refreshing, but on the other hand, why did the rams not retain him or another team give him an offer he couldn't refuse? Per usual, great breakdown ET! I'm guessing you've been itching to dive into the new run-game tape for a little while, based on the results we've had so far ;) It's been a while since I've gotten excited about the potential of our run game- Motor could have a big year, Moss might bounce back, and Cook adds a great dimension. Plus Duke Johnson has looked good running and returning punts. There will be some tough cuts, especially since Taiwan Jones will likely make it as a Teams specialist. Blackshear will get buried on the depth chart so hopefully we can sneak him to the PS- I really like what we've seen from him, and it seems like he can be a dual threat. I'd like to see how he performs against first team Defenses, but you can't ask much more of what he's produced

Eric, what'd ya think of Duke? He looks like he still has more than enough in the tank to be a contributor to an NFL team; do we trade or cut him, cuz I don't see any way Taiwan is getting booted and Blackshear would be my choice before Duke (all respect to Duke, he's getting old though and I'd prefer the youth of Blackshear)

@@Cover1 do you think we can trade him, considering we got him for $1M? That seems reasonable value for an RB his age....or do we cut him and he hopes he gets a better deal? Is there any hope of getting anything from a trade, even a 7th rounder?

Seeing a heavy zone scheme, I am wondering if that makes Moss more expendable. The one mid zone you showed with him, he doesnt come close to the burst that Blackshear possesses and when they start facing first team units, that split second difference is everything. I think cutting Blackshear would be a mistake. He is perfect for this run concept and looking to the future, you have him for 3 years, under 1 million per and you won't have to waste draft capital or overpay in FA next year for a RB if Singletary walks. It just seems like a classic Beane/McDermott move to keep Blackshear, since he satisfies several different fronts and needs. That being said, he wasn't drafted for a reason and maybe they think they can pluck another undrafted Blackshear type next year. Is there any chance in your mind, they would cut Moss and keep Blackshear?
@Cover1
@Cover1 2 жыл бұрын
I like Blackshear but he isn’t as valuable to the team as Moss or Motor THIS YEAR. I think they can somehow sneak him into the PS or find a similar guy next year.

Ford has looked great the last two weeks. I don't get the "how soon until we get rid of him talk." If Kromer can get the best out of his potential, isn't that what we want? Imagine if he actually becomes an an average guard and provides good depth at worst, or hits his full potential and can replace Saffold for a cheap contract next year. Isn't that what we want? Coaching makes a huge difference on the OL. Root for the guy to succeed

With Allen’s size and strength would there ever be a design where he would be used in assisting the run blocking
@RageDaug
@RageDaug 2 жыл бұрын
Allen is not a good blocker, but even if so, I still don't think you want to use your QB as a blocker, so I can't see any designed blocks for Allen. That said, Allen will definitely try to block if he sees a free runner heading toward the ball carrier.
@GeeDeeBird
@GeeDeeBird 2 жыл бұрын
I think for the Bills to be the very best team they can be, Josh Allen should not be an MVP candidate because the offense is so balanced that - though his passing efficiency is outstanding - his production is relatively low.
@RageDaug
@RageDaug 2 жыл бұрын
You only need enough rushing to keep the defense honest, you don't need to go 1 to 1 passing to rushing ratio for optimal offensive play. Personally I like seeing 2-to-1 or 3-to-1 passing to rushing. I feel the Bills can easily get 250 passing and 125 rushing, and 300/100 games should be regular with this offense, which would keep Allen in the MVP conversation so long as he keeps his interceptions under control.
