Being charitable, you could assume he's actually learned something about people in the 27 years since he wrote that book. But the "you've been given enough evidence to condemn you if you don't accept Jesus" is a popular talking point among apologists/preachers of all stripes. Because admitting that people might have genuine reasons for their disbelief would be to admit that their god has failed to properly communicate himself to humans he supposedly loves.

I love how Ken Ham is more theologically correct than William Lane Craig. The gospel accounts have lineages that trace back to Adam himself, and Jesus himself seemed to take Genesis literally. The only intellectually honest way to be a christian is to believe in a young earth creation story. Anything else is compromising on doctrine to avoid uncomfortable truth.
@weirdwilliam85003 жыл бұрын

I’d say Ken Ham would be right about the theology if he weren’t declaring he had perfect knowledge of the interpretation of god’s word as being literal in every case, and then follow it up by referring to “hearts knit together in love” and recognizing that as metaphor. The very idea that Ken Ham’s interpretation is correct because it’s literal is one of false idolatry and pomposity. Ken Ham props up Genesis as necessarily literal for no other reason than that it’s the beginning of the book, except of course the firmament, which Craig points out and Ham has no retort for. Such silliness.

"Origen and Augustine already argued for taking the creation story as a figurative text." Yes, because by that time, educated people already considered talking snakes and a god gardening laughable. This is one area where I feel Ken Ham has some fair points: 1. If there wasn't a literal Adam, why was Jesus necessary to atone for anything? 2. If you accept evolution, that appears to turn God into a kind of wasteful tinkerer. How much pain and suffering on a geological timescale, how much starvation, predation, and disease, to get to Homo Sapien? Did God watch the rise and fall of the dinosaurs with arms folded? The problem with Ham's almost child-like reading of Genesis is that if you have to believe the Bible literally you are, effectively committing intellectual suicide, as Craig said. Surely if there were to be a deity who gave us a brain, so we could get to the level we are at now he'd look at Ken Ham and say, "are you deranged? the Bible was intended for bronze age man, I'd have thought you would have "evolved" a little intelligence since then, you've wasted the gift I gave you Ham".

The stricter and more extreme and restricitve your religion is, the more often is is "attacked" meaning it gets harder and harder to defend your beliefs without realizing, that you even could be wrong. The moment a creationist admits, that their beliefs could be wrong it gets dangerous for their believe system. For most other christians (the ones who are less extreme) it isn't really a problem. It could just be a misunderstanding on their side, without needing to alter "gods word".
