MSF are using this solution because they are working on the field on improvised tents. There is no internet, no cable and no electricity. It's a great solution.

Why have a dedicated network of computers with a server so you can access the data from multiple points when you can use this shitty little tablet.. yeah innovative.

+Derek Rothman You can't lift a finger in making this world a better place you ignorant moron. So just stfu and stop saying shit.If you can't recognize the value of someone's work, its better you keep shut and carry on with your stupid life.

+sharran vishvanath I bring up valid points.. all you can do is insult me.. nice try. Also, I'd like to let it be known that I've donated to charities and volunteered so I can almost assure you, I've done more to help the world than you. These people claimed to have made an "ebola-proof" tablet and in no way is this tablet ebola-proof if anything it is only waterproof. I find that a bit misleading especially considering how much money has been donated to the cause of finding a cure for this evil disease and we got these guys making waterproof tablets claiming they're ebola-proof. If you're okay with all of the money paying for these almost guaranteed overpriced "Ebola-proof" tablets then I'm sorry but you are the "ignorant moron." Good day troll.

Derek Rothman The tablet being a complete failure is your opinion so calm down. The whole point of creating a wireless server is so that its portable. Apparently they dont need to "access data from multiple points" so get your facts right before you jump the gun. Secondly, half of the world "donates" for charity. That isnt any big shit. You've really helped a cause if you go and offer physical help, so please, if your all proud you've donated and done more than me, think again. And lastly, if you don't want to appreciate someone's work, its fine, but dont go about saying stuff that doesn't even make sense without getting your facts right. and the world isnt stupid. they're not going to buy that a tablet is ebola proof if its ju,t like you said "water proof". And if you really feel its awaste, try using your "valid points" and come up with something to fight ebola than sit on your fat ass and criticize peoples work. Have a great day fucktard

+sharran vishvanath You're so angry.. I'm not even sure if there's any reason to argue with you other than you're butthurt that I'm smart enough to see through corporate bullshit and I happened to take time out of my day to expose it. I have nothing else to say to you lol. I'm sure you will try to have the last word but I assure you.. I wont't read it hah. Peace.

+Patrick Wiersma Hi Patrick, I'm one of the founders of this project. As you can imagine, texting doesn't work very well in those areas. On top of that, it had to be fast. Something texting isn't really known for. It had to be locally deployable, and for that reason we built a local network with a tablet application that connects to a local server.

+Pim de Witte may I ask you how did you connect such a big screen to Edison (it would be very slow over SPI and Edison doesn't support HDMI, right?). Also, how did you run Android on Edison? Official forums state that Android is not supported. Also, did you use the Quark microcontroller chip on the Atom SoC? It is totally undocumented (no datasheets etc.) or I missed all the links? Also, project page says it is open-source but I failed to find any design materials on Edison integration - you built quite a custom platform and it would be interesting to at least see its overview. I tried to request the access to design materials github.com/projectbuendia/buendia/wiki#for-product-managers-and-designers but kpy@google.com account (docs owner) is disabled. How open/active is the project? Regards, Andrew. P.S. I tried to find your email on pimdewitte.me, no luck.

+Pim de Witte or did you use a COTS tablet for a client and Edison for a server?

"ebola proof laptops" well done science, you have saved the life of thousands of laptops - forget other people's lives

+Sir. Bobington Wait, what? Did you watch the video? Sure it's no cure, it's basically just waterproofing and lowering power consumption, but the whole point was to help ebola clinics.
