they were both very strong guys.. Atlas was a bidybuilder and had great gym strenth. Patera was more of a strong man power lifter and had a lot of real world strenth, as in knowing leverage and how to use your own body to generate alot of force.. both great legends and neither man should be disrespected as they both accomplished alot in wwf and both enhanced the sport.
@johnwilburn5 жыл бұрын
Both extremely legit strong. Great analysis of gym strong, versus strongman strong. Different styles with a lot of crossover, certainly, but have unique virtues.
@mouna20293 жыл бұрын
tony atlas also didt wresteling judo boxing before he was a body builder
@maxxxmodelz40612 жыл бұрын
Patera was an Olympic lifter I think. Powerlifters are very different, and strong man is different still. Ken had some serious explosive power, but stuff like this would have very little to do with explosive power. It's more endurance strength, so Tony would definitely have an equal amount of that.
@justafanmarvel96692 жыл бұрын
@@maxxxmodelz4061 Ken did compete in The World's Strongest Man competition and did rather well also.. and that goes outside of the realm of weightlifting if you have ever watched the events. The stuff they did here was geared to be applicable to weightlifting exercises... for example the bend the bar behind your head... watch Tony do it and then replace the bar with a fly press machine in your mind... these are movements that a traditional gym body builder would be familiar with. I'm in no way disparaging one man over the other... I love them both, but Atlas is a traditional competition bodybuilder... you can tell by looking at his body... it's like Arnold would train back in the day... Ken is a powerlifter, his definition is less but the bulk is more... he is trained more for lifting things that are not balanced evenly like dumbells are. Basically if I was moving furniture I would ask Ken to help me, if I was in the gym wanting to know the proper form on an exercise I would ask Tony to help.
@maxxxmodelz40612 жыл бұрын
@@justafanmarvel9669 You're right. I almost forgot that he placed 3rd in the WSM 1977. He actually didn't get any medals in the Olympics in 72, although he was a favorite to come in at least silver that year. He had been racking up medals in the PanAM Weightlifting and various international competitions in the early 70s and was one of the heavy favorites heading into the 72 Olympics but he fouled out on his lifts and didn't qualify for the podium. You're right that he did do well in WSM, which at the time had events like this bar bending and other stuff that really is really old school strongman stuff for sure.

I never realized how good Patera was on the mic - always remember Heenan talking for him. He wasn't much of a face but he's a great heel. Not like the cartoon characters of today - all catchphrases and ridiculously exaggerated drama with polished - yet stilted - speeches. This was when guys did off-the-cuff interviews and acted like real human beings. You could totally believe this is the real Ken and he was just a mean, strong, scary, power-lifting jerk lol.
@davefet14502 жыл бұрын

People today that want to be social justice warriors don't actually research things and place things in proper context so that they may be fully educated on a topic. They hear it on some bs cable news channel or listen to an uneducated athlete or some politician only trying to get their votes and use that as their basis to make claims.
