We stopped by the Honda pits at Red Bull Straight Rhythm to get the breakdown on KR94's McGrath tribute CR250 2-stroke from none-other than the man who wrenched on it back in the day: Lars Lindstrom.

Slight said allot without saying much about the bike at all, would have been good to go through the components, what was done to the engine if anything, posted polished tumbled etc, what did they do to the carb, rebuild it, change it, came stock with the Mikuni TMX 38, temperamental at the best of times, 04 onwards they had the TPS,, airbox was a sticky point back in the day, what did they do there if anything, also so much could have told about the suspension without sharing trade secrets, no secret how secretive Honda is even with its 2strokes long gone, saying that this is the best Honda and looking Honda I have seen since 2007. What about brakes wheels, clearly new rims, so much to tell yet just went in about a project, sorry Cole Seely’s was-a. project, 7DD/Lund MX was a project, so much could tell yet keel ya trade secrets and win some more fans Honda! Now props for keeping the plastics , side panels, front and rear fender, shrouds and tank like the originals, I am personally not a big fan of new style re kits, a they don’t usually fit well and to me look a bit funky, it’s like an older guy wearing teens clothing or a cougar dressing like a tiny bopper! jmo. So props to the plastics. Graphics were totally on point and really well done, bike looked as good as anything at RBSR, it sounded amazing and clearly ran amazing, with an amazing rider in KR94 ya all did good. Just wish coulda given us a bit more detail after all we are bike guys well some of us still are. 🤙

Coole Seely had a similar engine to Kens as it was Fonsecas factory engine from the same time as MCgrath in 05 and Seely had Mike Larrocos factory KYB, the main differences was the Carb and the secret inside as Cole had some problems. And literally no one, not even engine tuners as Mitch Payton or anyone for that matter will release their secrets / engine applications. For this bike they used a brand new shock Showa came out and made for him and the modern front end he had on the 450 and same for the wheels wich are HRC components, and for the transmission are also works, stronger material and different ratios as down to exact dimensions and details you wont find it because they wont reveal it.

Geez man is there more interview ? This guy is the man ! How do they balance their cranks for zero vibration ? What was the carb setup ? RC valve tricks ? How come the dont use a lectron, have they ever dynoed a lecteon ? Ignition tricks ? What did it dyno at ? This way fav. Bike at the straight rithym.

I had that bike back in when the “rc” power valve was on it, it sucked, the power valve cable kept breaking for some reason, the frame wasn’t what it is today,Good concept but wasn’t perfected.I still miss the 2smoke days.

Yeah I rode an 2003 one with RC valve and I hated it, the bike was so flat for a 250 stroke and I've never liked aluminium frames

There are actually many 2 stroke brands out there, just not at pro AMA SX and MX due to the class’s and Manufacturer’s wanting time sell 4t. Its dumb, but that’s what the Japanese primarily want/ed. KTM, Husky, TM, Beta, Sherco, GasGas (did) all make 2 stroke, most, not all make 2t trials bikes as well as Enduro and MX and quite a few Trials brands still make 2t trials bikes, one even makes a fuel injected 2 stroke more advanced than KTMs TPI and a year ahead of KTM. For some reason the MX/SX industry in the US is very ignorant to this or dosen’t want it known. 2t has dominated Hard Enduro and has dominated Enduro GP for the last 4 years, racing against 4t 250s/450s.

I don’t know what they’re talking about all the manufactures make 2 strokes except Honda Kawasaki and Suzuki and Kawasaki and Suzuki make 85 cc two strokes so really it’s only Honda

Jason Falcon - He rode one of McGrath’s CR 250’s, and said he felt he could win a main against 450’s on that bike. That’s saying a lot!!!
