My headcanon: Super Smash Bros characters (such as Mario, Link, Bowser, Zelda, Ken, Yoshi, Lucario, Wario, most likely Bayonetta, and Pit) were all like to see if characters they've fought were worthy to be in Super Smash Bros, Mario lost to Sonic (2011 prequel of Super Smash Bros. Brawl), Zelds lost to Peach, Bowser lost to Ganondorf, Ken lost to Terry, Yoshi lost to Pac-Man (in DBX), Lucario lost to Ryu (in DBX), Wario lost to King Dedede they've gave them invitations to Super Smash Bros., and since Link is such a nice guy, he decided to secretly give Cloud a invitation to Super Smash Bros despite that Cloud have lost, and since Knuckles to Donkey Kong, and Shadow lost to Mewtwo, they have to be in Assist Trophy, but they don't mind at all since fans were happy to see them in Super Smash Bros., and Luigi was praying that Tails will appear in Super Smash Bros, since he had defeated him, so does Pit and Bayonetta, since they have lost to Sora and Dante, and they were still waiting to this day.
