My first time in Nepal! Join me on the journey to Kathmandu, Nepal!
After spending a lot of time in southeast Asia, it is now time for me to return to south Asia. I am going to Nepal. Join me on the journey from Kuala Lumpur Malaysia all the way to Kathmandu, the capital and biggest city of Nepal. This nation in south Asia is home to around 30 million people and known for the mount everest. I am keen to explore Nepal! The plan is to stay here for a couple of weeks, exploring Kathmandu and some mountain areas. After my arrival I checked in into a Palace Hotel. That was the description on Google Maps. I have nevcer heard the term palace hotel before, so I was quite curious.

Hello from Oregon, USA -- Thank-you for your interesting arrival video. My first trip to Nepal was in 1975 as a Peace Corps volunteer. At the time, the population of the country was 9.5 million people, and the population of Kathmandu just 180,000. There were very few private cars in those days and no motorcycles at all -- they didn't arrive until the 80s -- but many more bicycles and rickshaws. US$1.00 = rupees 12.45 and the hotel where we stayed was just 6 rupees a night with all you could eat dal bhat for 3 rupees. Most shops in town closed by 8:00pm with the streets quiet and people in their homes. The land around the central part of the city and on the way to Patan or Bhaktapur was mostly agricultural with clear air most days. I stayed for 3 years and it was a good time to be in Nepal. I look forward to following your adventures and to see the city and countryside from your perspective. Safe travels to you.

Wow~ A 150-year-old Palace Hotel is really rare! Although the pictures on the Internet seem relatively large, but considering that he is 150 years old, I can comfort you not to be too sad! It is true that the dining etiquette is different in each country, but there are spoons and forks, you can really consider using them. I believe the audience can understand! Next time, try putting the rice in one bowl with side dish and step by step eating it, it will be easier to eat, and every grain of rice will not be wasted! Anyway, it is up to you! You can definately use spoons and fork to eat. Im nepali but never used my hands to eat rice. Usually a lot of people use hand to eat daal bhat. Like you said its not a good idea to dump everything at once you spoil the taste. I would use rice and little bit of daal and veggie and eat. But its upto you.

Hello Ken, I know I'm late to the party but would like to recommend something. When you're eating Nepali Thali, you can put all the bowls outside the plate and make space when eating rice. That way it doesn't feel congested and you can pour over lentil soups, chicken gravy or mix vegetables and pickles as much as you like.

What an easy peasy journey/flight from Kuala Lumpur to Nepal. Great to have a glass of "teh tarik" before departure 😂😄 Wow, it's wonderful to know that hotel was once a palace...thanks for the interesting hotel/room tour. First experience with Nepali beer and local proper meal look amazing. Yeah, as you have been in Malaysia and Sri Lanka before, eating with hand isn't a problem for you. Ken, I can understand what you're going through on the first day of arrival at a different country/place. Being a seasoned traveler, you know how tourism works everywhere; yet, in this peace and loving kingdom, there are kind souls that you will be encountering! Oh boy, what a lavish place you're staying at! Hahaha... enjoy our stay and discovery. I bet this is gonna be a Real Adventure! If you're heading to the mountains, just keep yourself warm, get some AMS medicine, and have good shoes and trekking pole; of course, get to know your guide first. Also, having battery charged up for your recordings is a must. And....... have fun with Mother Nature in the godly peaks :P Pokhara should be in your list. Both Hinduism and Tibetan Buddhism (especially the holy vibes at Boudanath) will be your highlights. The mountainous forest, the breathtaking awe, and the cultural villages (if you're not heading to the common trails) will be your foreground. Food should be interesting too in Thamel. For Buddhism discovery, you can opt for the Lumbini place which is faraway; for safari, head to the tropical jungles in Chitwan; and lastly, for some interesting classes on yoga, etc. Spirituality practice and visits to the Hindu temples and Buddhist monastery and audience with the reverence may be of your interest. Well, there's just too much to tell you about. Go discover them yourself and show us all your interesting findings and adventures. People in Nepal is very interesting too; in the villages, its a simple, happy and basic living! No rivalry from the modern world, but things are changing even in the villages now...tell me more if you're venturing to the sacred lakes/mountains; hope you found the Himalayan Tahr or Munal on the way ;)

In towns, checkout the alleys and corners and the Durbar squares (but you have to pay, haha) and in a week, you're a local there ;) hehe... cheers! Can't wait to see more of your adventures in this Himalayan country. Meet Newaris, Tamangs, Sherpas, and many other people there. The cultural heritage and the link of the renowned Sagarmatha to humanity and the World is much to explore! Yup, let's see how much Love you get there now ;)

10:55 - Ken, as you know i am German too, so also not from Nepal, but i have been there already. According to the actual information on the Airport Kathmandu website fares from the International Kathmandu Airport to town are between 400 - 600 Rupees => "The cost of a one-way ride by a metered taxi to anywhere in Central Kathmandu is around 400 rupees (about $4) and maximum fare is 600 rupees."

I am nepali, and the price you said is correct. Although if you go to bhaktapur wich is abit far from kathmandu, the price is around 1000 nepali rupees. But anywhere inside kathmandu city from airport must not cost more then 600

Also the taxies parked inside airpot compound cost more then the ones outside. I recommend any tourist or nepali to get the taxi from outside the airport which is just 1min walk form the exit of arrivals.

I was in Nepal last autumn, my hotel called the taxi for me, the fare was the same, locals told me that the tax is higher at night, there was also a guide who jumped into my taxi just like what you experienced, I am a female traveling solo, I was actually terrified, having 2 men in a cab with me, and the road was so dark, I pretended I know Nepal very well. Ktm was very polluted, I didnt really enjoy the time while I was there, but when i am back home, i was starting to miss it, it is an amazing place, enjoy your trip! One comment, it seems the camera is swinging a bit fast and also because of the wide angle, i feel kind of dazzled. Just to let you know, maybe its just me.
