I read some comments from some OU fans yesterday regarding the transfers and recruiting that Arkansas is getting from the state of OK and they were dumbfounded as to why players would want to play for a "mediocre" team like Arkansas. The culture at the U of A is unlike any other in the nation. Players and coaches are seeing that Arkansas is on the upswing and on the verge of greatness. We were one 2 pt conversion away from being possibly 10-3 instead of 9-4 (Ole Miss game). We ran toe to toe with Alabama late in the game. I truly believe Arkansas will have the success we had a decade ago under Petrino and will be top 10 next season. WPS!

For as passionate as OU fans are about their team specifically, most I've come across don't really know college football all that well. If it's outside of Norman they can't tell you much about it. Usually not a good fanbase to talk football as a whole with in my experience.

My thought is this. If you are getting paid over $1,000,000 a year to be a coordinator that's amazing. If he goes to a university and they pay him less than that, why?? Miami's offensive coordinator position is a step down right now. Maybe not later. Who knows.
@patricksullivan22613 жыл бұрын
For Briles I think the long term goal is a head coaching gig. With what he has coming back on offense Briles should put up huge numbers and get some serious offers at the end of next season. If he goes to Miami then he has to rebuild the offense and that sets him back a year or two. Not to mention that Miami is a grave yard right now. How many good coaches have seen their careers derailed there? For Pete's sake they canned Manny Diaz (not the second coming of Bear Bryant I grant you) after a 7-5 season and with a 16-9 conference record. You have zero fan support and Alabama like expectations. Who would want to coach there with that hanging over their head?

If Dmac didn't win it, KJ won't. But he was close to 3000/1000 playing hurt for most of the year in his first full season and he outplayed Matt Coral head to head. It's not impossible he's in the discussion or even seated. I do think if he had that type of year this is his last season.

Briles putting together his resume for a HC job and he is already ahead of the curve at what is being built at Arkansas and going to Miami would push that HC dream back.
@MountainVisions2 жыл бұрын
I agree. He's developed a potential Heisman level QB and has the #1 or 2 rushing offense in the SEC in year 2 and the O-line isn't even up to top standards yet. I'm certain he'd do fine at Miami but he can definitely build on what he's done here vs what is at this point a lateral job at best and potentially a downgrade. The one area he'd have an advantage is Florida/Miami talent being instantly a bit higher than Arkansas and the ACC is weak.
@TheRMcghee3 жыл бұрын
Glad he is staying but he called Miami and he also called and tried to get the OU offensive OC job. I'm OK with him coming back. He's a very good OC but if he's always hunting other jobs then I'm good with him leaving. There are other OC that can really coach.

@@TheRMcghee What I mean is.... He is seeking a head coaching job eventually. But how are those schools going to approach you, when that time comes, when you've been auto-rejecting everything in sight? So it makes sense, then, that....even if you really have no intention of leaving for another OC job..... You will still listen to their offer and let them make their full pitch. Hes working forward the future and a head coaching job. That's why he lets everybody make their offers and pitches. So one day, when the right school comes calling for him to be their head coach, it will be on his record that he is willing to listen and is therefore approachable. They might not do that if he gets the reputation of someone who keeps turning people down before even listening to their offer. I'm glad he's back too. This offense will be fun to watch, if the receivers play to their potential.
@TheRMcghee3 жыл бұрын
@@williamhaston6059 Miami was looking for an OC IMO that's a downgrade from Arkansas. I absolutely would agree if he's in the running for a HC he should and would go for it. But he kept his name in the running for the Miami job and he supposedly called to try and get the OC job at OU. I'm glad he's back and he was going to get a raise with or without Miami. If he's as happy as he is portraying? Why did he look around? He's back so it doesn't matter.
@williamhaston60593 жыл бұрын
@@TheRMcghee Yes, it would be a downgrade to go to Miami. And you know that "they say" a lot of things. That dont mean the claim is true. I highly doubt that he actively sought an OC job elsewhere. But for the sake of future prospects seeing how you might act when approached about a potential job, you always let the interested party make their full pitch. Obviously, this is where he needs to be til he gets his HC gig, and I think he knows that
