Yes it's true. Those two fish are common rainbow darter's. Arrow darter's are actually endangered are are actually larger getting up to 4.5 inches long. What KG found are common rainbow darter's. Population stable.

ITS NOT AN ARROW DARTER! Kendall, my man, I hate to break it to ya but it's just a male Rainbow Darter (Etheostoma caeruleum). Rainbows are much more common and all it takes to differentiate between the Rainbow and Arrow darters is some simple research on Kentucky darter species! I really hope you see this. GrayGang, like this comment so he sees!!! (I am 99% sure of the species of darter this is but without any good pictures of it, it is slightly difficult to tell the species although I am 99.999999% it aint an arrow darter.)

Down here in Alabama we have a fish that shut down an entire road, bridges, and almost didn't allow a manufacturing plant to be built.. the fish is smaller than a minnow and is only found here and in Japan SUPER rare. The creek they are in runs right through my property line been fishing it my whole life and never knew.

Here in New Mexico I’ve caught the Rio Grande Sliver Minnow (also a very endangered minnow) they have a really awesome sliver color! Last year I helped out restore a stream they swim in!
