That cva cascade that you didnt end up getting is an amazing rifle. It's guaranteed sub moa (1in groups at 100 yards) and has a great cerakote finish. I don't have one but a friend of mine does and we took it out to 1000 yards no problem. If you got the money definitely get one.

You should always get a 3 round group, then adjust from the average point of that group! If you adjust after each shot, you could end up chasing a big group. Plus you start out knowing how your rifle.groups

Don't forget to wear hearing protection guys. They even make electronic hearing protection that can make you hear better in the woods. Potentially shooting a deer isn't worth permanent hearing damage.

Try to marinade the deer steak in 1 part worcedtershire sauce 3 parts soy sauce for at least 1/2 hr. That is how I do my deer steak, it turns out great.

Mossberg makes really good rifles and shotguns. And it is not the rifle it's the ammo. You have to find the right ammo that's good for accuracy. I have a Savage 110 and the best ammo for my rifle are Hornady. I have not missed a deer with the Hornady.

I agree, some rifles like Mossberg Patriots and ATRs shoot better with certain manufacturers and certain bullet weights. The good thing about buying a popular rifle like a Patriot is usually someone has already tested most of the popular ammo available so you can just get what most people who have tested that exact same rifle recommends and save some time and money. My Mossberg ATR .308 shoots Winchester PowerPoint 180 grain extremely well, but it's terrible with 150 grain. The most expensive ammo is not always the best match for your rifle. Keep your scope tight and find the ammo that's best for your rifle. Merry Christmas everybody!!!

The trick to those patriots is to gently remove the scope and huck it as far as you can then install a better one, bushnell banner 2 or better and Remington core lock or better and you’ll be shooting 1-1.5” groups at 100 yards. My son got one this year and it is a good shooting rifle, I have a Mossberg atr 100 in .243 and it is a nail driver. I still prefer my Remington 7400 in 30,06 though. I shoot norma whitetail ammo, love that stuff

The mossberg patriot isn't known for shooting very good groups, that CVA you had in your hands a little before that shoots sub MOA with all the guns ive experienced, the savage axis also shoots 1 MOA or under.

If the scope comes already on the gun always take it off and remount it properly. Then shoot a three shot group and adjust from the center of the group. You might have to try different kinds of ammo to find one that gets a decent group. Oh, and don’t over cook your venison!
