Hi Andy, I have a question for the next rant. How come doh mune embroidery (Shokko) tends to be plainer these days? Back in the day there were a variety of colourful designs to choose from but nowadays it seems a lot of retailers are mostly sticking to plainer dot style embroidery rather than the kikko or kisane-bishi styles of the past. Is this simply the fashion in Japan driving the change internationally?

Good evening Fisher Sensei. I am still watching the “mega stream” you did at Kendo Tips and your explanation about Shugyo made me reflect about something that has been in the back of my mind for a while now. I won’t beat around the bush. I’m 50 years old, just got shodan and I try to practice twice a week. What do you think a reasonable goal to be attained would be? I understand this is very subjective and personal thing but your two cents on the matter would be greatly appreciated. I’m not getting any younger 😉

Hello again Fisher Sensei. I'm a reasonably tall guy (192cm) and have issues striking do properly (mainly from fear to hurt my partners). As a result I rarely use it in geiko which understandably is not ideal in the long run. Are there any "tricks" to help practice do strikes in a precise and safe manner?. Many thanks.

Thank you for the answer on the white bogu question. I'll certainly take your advice and wait for 3. Dan and see how I feel. It is at least a relief to know it isn't a particularly big taboo thing to do.

I have noticed that many people wear colored "Do" over time. And also with unusual embroidery on "Do-mune". I myself have "Do" with non-standard embroidery.
