Great set, was reasonably staightforward to follow as a beginner. The speed on Kote-Gaeshi execution I felt was too fast. I don't have enough space to do 3 forward strikes (Kote-Men-Do) in my room, still thinking what to replace that part with.

You could make the Do a hiki do perhaps ? Then one step back after with Okuriashi to recover. The timing will be a bit at the end of the recovery movements but it should work. You'll just need to wait a sec while I catch up to you 😉

@@KendoSwordsman So I've done the set about 15 times in the last 3 weeks and hiki-do definitely works (it's also one of the hardest cuts to do consistently, among those in this set). Thank you for this advice. The other hard one is the kata-te men cut; I think my shortened, weighted indoors-shinai makes it harder than it should be so I am trying out doing it with my regular shinai from sonkyo. All in all, thank you for this video, it's my daily driver now, very satisfying half-hour.

Thanks for the feedback. Glad it helpful to you. Now the bad news: It is said, that when you have your first Dan rank, you are ready to begin. By your third Dan rank you will have acquired the fundamentals of Kendo. It usually takes people a year or two as adults to get the first dan. A year after that you'll be eligible to test for the second. 2 years after passing the second you'll be eligible to test for the third. Other factors are going to be access to high level instructors, seminars, competitions and so on to gain experience. That plus the effort put it will determine how quickly you get a handle on things.
