Enjoyed this. I have recited this history many many times. I worked at The Sailors' Snug Harbor in Sea Level NC from 1986 to 2017. What wonderful times with those sailors. When I began we had several who had lived on Staten Island facility. I was hired by the last sea captain GOVERNOR who worked both in NY and NC Facility. The facility opened in 1976 in NC and the last sailor living there who was a recipient of The Trust died in April 2017. ...Rose Tankard

I grew up on S.I. so have been to Snug Harbor many times. My sister had her daughters communion party there. Very pretty place.

Good details in this one. Too bad we do not take care of our sailors like this now. I Am curious though, why can’t this be used for immigrants coming to NY now? Were there any sailors here that left a diary of day to day life there?
