The reason why i like kendrick lamar his songs aren't just about money and having sex and doing drugs. He tells stories about the struggles him and his community go through. For example in his other song "Money Trees" he talks about Louies burgers and how it won't be the same, and in this song he mentions it again like a continuation of a story

I love how he states "this is not a rap on how im slingin' crack or move cocaine" it struck me because that's usually what a lot of rap songs are about so it was pretty cool to see he was actually rapping about his childhood maybe or even the events taking place now. Either way im happy to find a rap song that isn't bragging about drug use or trafficking for once.

Kendrick is a fucking genius. His lyrics is truly poetry and this track in particular, there is just so many hidden meanings and alliterations that I keep coming back to find another lyric having more meaning than before. I only just realized on this last listen that the line "Compton USA, _M_ ade me an _A_ ngel on _A_ ngel _D_ ust" was a subtle acronym. It's not exactly the same vibe, but I recommend watching a lyric video on his song Sing About Me/I'm Dying of Thirst. That song paints such a disturbingly vivid image of what life in Compton was like, I swear you can feel their pain just by reading his words. It still brings me to tears since it dropped.

+kristian bramlev well it's actually This maad city like "run, my nigga" but even then, it's hard to tell if it's I or like. I've been trying to figure it out for a bit of time now, cause the whole hook could have a different meaning depending on the right one. edit- but with that, I'm pretty sure it is "I" because most of the song is more significant with "I" rather than like.

Well, the hook is supposed to be someone talking to Kendrick. So he's probably saying "I'd run my nigga." Like as if he was warning him he was about to get fucked up if he didn't leave.

This is my first time listening to this song, what i get from this: 1-The first part of the song is very raw, ive never heard someone rap with such trauma, the storytelling in here contains amger and you can feel it vividly as he narrates hus anecdotes in the mad city. The second part is the same from a colder perspective, almost like an active gangster realtes the story, tye peoduction is great also. Hip hop is not my thing but kendricks trauma and storytelling are definitely serious.

1:11 "I’m bleeping out a name. These stories are serious and in-depth, I’m not going to go out here and really, really slander and put my real ones out there that have been in some real situations. Those close to me know what I’m talking about. It’s just about me seeing somebody get killed, just as a kid. And knowing, and being right there, and knowing how it all went down, feel me?" - Kendrick Lamar
