6 years later..... Today, TPAB has a substantive, fact based argument as one of, if not THE greatest album of all time. It's surpassed my personal favorites in the past year or so. (Blueprint 1 was previously the "newest addition", so it's not an easy top 5 to crack). This album belongs next to those we historically cherish, whether its "Songs in the Key of Life" or Led Zeppelin's debut album. Or Abbey Road. And that's all while still digesting the complexities, and most honest/personal body of work that he's released, in Mr. Morale. I don't think most appreciate how fortunate we are to witness this era. He's on a short list for G.O.A.T. already, and might even have an argument at this point, after the Pulitzer. The jury is probably still out, there. Play TPAB and Mr. Morale back to back. It really feels like a great follow up when put next to one another. But damn this video makes me miss the TPAB era of Kendrick. Especially in his live show.

Lamar's work sounds to me like the beginning of a whole new category of hip-hop that doesn't have a name yet. I wouldn't be surprised to hear him called a "founder" of something 10 years from now. Whether you like him or not, you've got to admit that he's very musically ambitious. He knows his roots, but he's cutting a new path. Respect. His free form timing has deep roots in jazz, and there's a little bit of experimental avant-garde art music spliced in. Those two are part of what's now considered "high culture," whereas rap is thought to be low. He's showing that they can be mixed and come out as art that is both popular and sophisticated. No small feat there. The foundation that Nicki Minaj is tearing down on one side, Kendrick Lamar is building upon on another.

Let's see: Anderson Paak, Childish Gambino's new album, and... what else? David Bowie's Blackstar has a slight TPAB influene tho.. There's nothing else really that sounds like TPAB, but I think that will change in the future let that album live and breathe for a while. Btw, Chance doesn't count for me he's been making this kind of sound (or a similar sound) since Acid Rap which came out 2013

Nothing's ever gonna sound like TBAP but a lot of rappers have been trying to sound similar ever since 3/15/15

Kendrick Lamar, respect for a true artist. He has the intelligence, creativity, open mind, wit, sensitivity, musical genious, and bad ass attitude to make u feel what's real in a way that hits u hard and u don't forget

This is what I look for in a great artist. He’s one of a kind, the revolutionary of hip hop. Goat for me

As I go through his catalogue daily I literally ask myself this very question in complete confusion. Now EM is one of the ones he’s calling out. I wouldn’t play “Patty Cake” against this genius.

incredible performance. it's nice to see quality, thought provoking music in the mainstream because it seems to be a rarity these days. hopefully most people like him for his complete albums and not just the hit singles.

Pretty rare to see someone perform something quite different to the original with such confidence and ability. Kudos to Kendrick, I had my doubts but I can see the light.

Xavier Jarnaki clearly. Given how tight his braids are while they are clean its is actually painful, when first done/tightened. Hence "his braids make my head hurt." I'm guessing u tried to make a jab with the Drake= butthurt but since you failed to understand why he made his post it falls flat.
