I had my cousin and his wife (who had no idea that there was a recent rap beef and don’t know anything about Kendrick besides having heard of his name and only know Drake from his dancing in Hotline Bling and wheelchair Jimmy turned rapper) listen only to Meet the Grahams and they concluded that it was the most devastating way you could get to a person at their core. Like we probably all need to go to confession after hearing it and we haven’t even done any of the things in the song. My cousin’s wife asked what Drake did to that man and then said it didn’t really matter because if someone is inspired enough to write such a scathing song about you, addressing each of your family members individually, and then addressing you by your government name and throwing away the entire premise of a rap battle because it’s a lifelong battle with yourself - they deserve it. Especially with the “you lied” being intensified with each repetition. I played them all of Drake’s disses against Kendrick (and no other Kendrick disses - just Mother I Sober so they could understand the Heart Part 6 better) and they concluded short jokes and money jokes and AI Tupac were child’s play next to MtG. They were concerned about the allegations against Kendrick but after listening to Mother I Sober and The Heart Part 6, they weren’t convinced Drake was smart enough to understand any tea that he may have gotten and wondered if he had actually put hands on a woman and was projecting given just how badly he misunderstood the song and the fact that he made fun of CSA victims as a rebuttal of being accused of CSA and used the “I’m too rich and famous to get away with serious crimes” defense. Only one Kendrick and all of Drakes and they still gave Drake the L.

Enjoyed your breakdown immensely. I’m just an unknown songwriter with books of ideas and songs that will never be made. This beef gave me a new appreciation for KDot as a wordsmith. I was checked out raising the last of my children at home the last few years. Now they’re all grown and I’ve been checking back in. Even not knowing the history when I first listened to Euphoria I knew Kendrick would win. I’ve never been a big Drake fan so, no great loss for me to continue to not listen. I dont know what video it was where u were talkin about how the beef seems like it was set up by both parties ahead of time bcuz of whatever u named as the reasoning... and i sorta bought into it when u said it. But after listening to these songa for a mth now, some of the lyrics seem to hint towards it. 🤔 Obviously, Kdot had knowledge of the "Family Matter" record bcuz of all the warnings he gave Drake about not dropping the song about his family. And then steppin on the release of that record promptly with "Meet the Grahams". But what makes me buy more into ur idea that both camps talked about the beef before it got started is due to the lyrics on "Push Ups" where Drake says dont blame this on him mentioning "them little kids." So it seems like, after "Like That", there might've been th3 convo u alluded to before the beef kicked off, but when Kendrick learned of what was in the Family Matter song, they reached out to Drake, he probably said he was gon say whatever he wanted to say anyway. And from there, Kdot geared up for the fvkery. personally this beef helped both Kendrick and Drake if you think about it Kendrick hadn't released anything in sometime while Drake gets accused of having ghostwriters so after that Ai response song Drake did the lyrics in his responses to Kendrick are better. Plus Drake has more haters than fans as people say because of how he started and I don't know if Drake has underground stuff out there when it comes to rap but the first place I heard Drake rap is on the show Degrassi The Next Generation when the creators/writers had written a storyline for the show that would mirror Degrassi High where a band is formed so they have the children of those characters in Degrassi TNG start a band. There was an episode where said band wasn't really doing well as a record label only wanted to sign the Craig character and Jimmy(played by Drake) was convinced to get on stage during an open mic segment where he rapped, it's said that behind the scenes that Drake like performing music and the show creators told him that he had to choose either acting or music and he chose music to which they wrote the Jimmy character off the show so he could pursue a music career.
