KENKO TelePlus HDPro DGX x2 teleconverter - REVIEW for daytime and nighttime photography

Going to Chile in 2 weeks to shoot the total solar eclipse on July 2nd 2019, I couldn't bring all my heavy lenses with me, so I decided to take lighter lenses and buy the KENKO TelePlus HDPro DGX x2 extender to magnify two times the frame.
In this in-depth review, I go over some test shots that I took from home during the day and at night (moon) using two different camera bodies and three different lenses. I analyze how the extender performs overall and also the sharpness, color, contrast and possible aberration it causes. As a conclusion, I'm extremely satisfied with this small and compact add-on. I was quite baffled by its performance and would definitely recommend it for those who don't want to spend thousands of dollars on expensive telephoto lenses, especially if you are running out of time for an event like an eclipse! As expected, It's certainly not the sam equality as a real lens with the same focal length, but it's safe to say that the KENKO TelePlus HDPro DGX x2 extender does have enhanced optical abilities and can be compared to the Canon x2, which is a bit more expensive.

Finally a great review. You saved me up some bucks. Teleconverter Pros: higher focal length. Cons: loss of sharpness, details and amount of light, increases chromatic aberration. So still better to make a precise focus and crop the image, instead of using teleconverters. Do the focal length really matter for you? Buy a better telephoto lens. It will more expensive and heavy af, but at least it gives better quality.

Honestly, despite what you're saying, I think the images without the extender actually look sharper than the ones with the extender. Maybe you messed up the labeling in some of the shots? Or something to do with KZbin compression? E.g. the shot of the church, the left side appears to have more detail. Are you sure that was the shot with out the extender? Because in the next shot you switch the sides.

Can I combined 2 no of 2x Teleconverter? Do I need to modify the Teleconverters or I can just stack them directly. Planning to use it for planetary image stacking for my Nikon 200-500 lens

I did not understand how exactly this works, please help. I own Canon APS-C sensor camera (1100D) and 50mm f/1.8 lens. So if I use this teleconverter, will I get 50x1.6 (crop factor) x2=160mm effective focal length at f/3.6 ?? I was considering to buy Samyang 135mm f/2 but considering the prices, "Canon 50mm+Kenko 2x teleconverter" is way cheaper than "Samyang 135mm f/2". (I am mostly interested in night sky photography, so I can compensate smaller aperture with tracking and exposure time, I suppose)

I think there is No pointbof buying teleconverter for 50mm just buy 100mm and use TC only with logger focal lenghts

Actually I also own Tamron 18-200 f3.5-f6.3 which I normally use for day photography so I was thinking if I can get a teleconverter, I can use it on both my prime and telephoto. What do you think? Still not a good idea.. buying lenses when you are on a budget is such a difficult thing :-/

No it does not. As an alternative it works pretty good with the ef-s 55-250mm stm lens. Greetings from Chile 🇨🇱 🙋🏻‍♂️
