Really nice video, Ken. I've really appreciated this material for many years, based the CD of Miles '58. For over a year, I had intended to write to Chad to suggest that he make a 45 RPM, best sounding ever, LP release of this material which, as you stated, doesn't have as good of sound as Kind of Blue but is, artistically, just as fantastic. It needed the audiophile treatment. So, obviously, I'm thrilled with Chad already having the idea and acting on it. I ordered it the day Acoustic Sounds released info about it and can't wait to hear it. Such great music. Thanks again for making a really enjoyable video about it.

You were fortunate. I ordered mine Dec 6 and I'm told it will ship Jan 10 but I suspect it will be much later.

Ken GREAT review, sir! You have sold me on the album, can’t wait to buy it. I met you last month at Blank Street Coffee. You were about to set up an auction at The Jazz Record Center and kindly took the time to have a quick chat and take a photo with me. Thanks again, I am loyal subscriber and I look forward to receiving more knowledge about HiFi equipment and Jazz from you in the near future. - Chris

Chris, we met the place near the store, right, not a Blank Coffee. Had me confused!

You’ve done a lot of great videos but I think this could be one of your best. I loved the fact that you didn’t know who Miles was but had the…..you know what’s, to ask to take his picture. We all know that he could be a little difficult. You said that you would check on him. Did you have other interaction with him, any other stories? I do have this on order. Thanks again for your insight.
@kenmicallefjazzvinylaudiop645522 күн бұрын
I had no other interaction with him. I’ve interviewed many of his musicians through the years for various publications. Life is freaky. Thank you.

How could I add anything to what you so prefectly said about these recordings. Thanks again for your knowledge and insite. I have the OG of Basic Miles and I can't eait to compare, but I am sure you neiled it already.--JG

Thanks for the review. I'll admit I was on th fence about this as I have the Mosaic Complete Miles/Trane CBS sessions on LP box. I'm sure the overall sound of this is better than the Mosaic. The playing on this stuff is great no doubt.
@kenmicallefjazzvinylaudiop645522 күн бұрын
What it sound better than the mosaic? I believe all the mosaics were done digitally, but I bet it still sounds great.

Do you know how this latest LP compares to the CD versions of these songs in the KOB 50th Anniversary box? I have that box & trying to decide if I there's any difference between the two versions. Any opinions?
@kenmicallefjazzvinylaudiop645520 күн бұрын
I don’t recall, but I do recall that the 50th anniversary kind of blue actually wasn’t that good sounding. I actually attended the remastering sessions and I don’t know what the problem was but personally I felt that mix was sort of cold even though the speed had been corrected. But if these four songs appeared on that box, the Fidelity would definitely be better than any prior releases such as jazz track or miles 58. At least that’s my opinion.
@mbaker777519 күн бұрын
@kenmicallefjazzvinylaudiop6455 Thanks for the feedback back. And you're right about the KOB 50th. That's why I bought the UHQR. But I love the book and other materials that came with it.
@rsyalom23 күн бұрын
So does it sound better than a 6-eye Jazz Track album? Or have additional material?
@kenmicallefjazzvinylaudiop645522 күн бұрын
I have not done that comparison. I have the jazz track mono reissue. This is stereo. No additional material.

I gotta say I really take issue with the Analogue Productions marketing of this release. They say over and over again that it's a new release but it's simply not (see the AP hype video). 1958 Miles (1979 Sony Japan) has the exact same songs in the same order plus one song. They obviously thought enough of the historical significance of the titles on their own to put it out as such and they did so there is no new territory being charted here other than the imagery. So here you get more hype for less songs. And you're right, it's a blown' session. While yes the lineup is the KOB lineup, it's conceptually belongs somewhere else yet look at them pumping up the KOB imagery and legacy. This has cash grab written all over it. The OG 1958 Miles which is a mono record sounds great to my ears and it's been widely available for 4 decades .
@kenmicallefjazzvinylaudiop64558 күн бұрын
what you say is true, but these titles have NEVER been issued in top notch sound quality. If anything, they sounded horrible, pressed in crummy comps like Basic Miles. Birth of the Blue places the music as two titles per side, which gives each selection super wide grooves which hold more information and are better tracked by the turntable. You're entitled to your own opinions, not your own facts

Many thanks! I would have preferred to be at the launch event rather than buying the record :-) Maybe a nice add-on or bookend as you say.
