Love this label. Started ordering this label by mail order in 64/65 when they started. I remember getting them in the mail and the smell of ink when they arrived as they were still wet. Spritual Unity was a gem as were all the rest....Pharoah Sanders etc. Thanks for posting Ken!

Wow great video! ESP is a really interesting label. Some of their other non-jazz releases were Pearls Before Swine - One Nation Underground, and Balaklava, which featured Tom Rapp the lisping leader of the underground. Also, Erica Pomerance - You Used To Think is an interesting acid folk album. Another acid folk classic is Ed Askew - Ask the Unicorn. Cromagnon is cool too, a weird "out" rock record. One of my favorites on the label is Bob James Trio (yeah, that Bob James) - Explosions, which features experimental musician Robert Ashley on noisy tape collages, and Barre Phillips on bass. Can't wait for part 2!

Other non/jazz were also The Godz rock oriented band, and the notorious hell tunes of Charles Manson. But #freejazz was the bread and peanut butter. There are also a few historical bebop LPs by the early masters. Waiting for Part II too.

Love the comment responses! I thought I was the only one who followed and listened to ESP records. Because of the intense eclectic and hard core nature of the music...mass commercial success was never going to happen. I started collecting these records back in the early 70's. I was very happy to see this interesting video. I would love to see a resurgence of this music. I have a large poster of Albert Ayler's "Spiritual Unity" on the wall as I write this text. Ha!

Great video, thanks. I've been a fan of ESP-disk since the late 60's and have several records including a few of the Fugs. I remember being being particularly impressed by a Thelonius Monk cover and loved the catalogue back covers.

KEEEENNNN! You need to do a video on bootlegs. Huge problem here in Europe. Everywhere you look there are bootlegs. Who makes them and where?
