Excellent. I've sewn for decades and still learned some new things.

I completely agree with you. These are in my opinion the best home zigzag sewing machines ever. I own a 158-1430, and a 158-1941 (free arm version),and a 158-1802. They are quiet, strong and reliable. They can't be beat on zigzag. Nice, even width even feed. I still love my Singer 201-2 for a perfect straight stitch.

This was INCREDIBLY thorough and informative. I recently thrifted this exact machine for costuming. First time sewing on my own, so I've been nervous. lol Thanks so much for this video!!

I’ve had my 158-14001 since 1970 . Love this machine. Makes the best buttonholes. I have oiled and changed the grease box. Electric cord seems a little stiff. Should it be rewired? My daughter is an electrician.

Blind stitch is for hemming that is basically hidden. The other one is if you are hemming from the opposite side. IOW right and left.

After watching about half of this video I went to set mine up the way you did and come to find out my zigzag option isn’t working it makes a beautiful straight stitch but when I turn it to do a zigzag it does a whole totally different pattern not even the one that’s where the knob is set. Any idea what to look for on correcting that to get the zigzag to work. Everything looks clean and I’ve oiled everything that I possibly could that’s metal to metal. Should the cams be oiled? Thanks

Is the little plastic lever repairable? I think its the reverse switch but not 100% sure due to it breaking off

I see you only have after- fixed tests, not how to fix. I’ll ask anyway. I’m restoring Kenmore 158.14000 machine that has sat for 15+ yrs. All oiled and all parts are moving. But hand crank is hard to turn although with a push, the motor starts it and runs fine. It’s only the initial start that wheel needs manual push, starts fine after unless it sits for a while. Trying to turn wheel crank manually is hard. Would the belt be too tight? Thx

How is the grease box changed?

Any advice on putting clutch knob back on, so it loosens to wind bobbin and tightens when sewing? I replaced belts now I can’t get knob to tighten and loosen for bobbin.

Can it sew canvas or leather ( not the belt thick)

I have Kenmore 158-1345 and it's such a wonderful machine! Just wondering what would be the best buttonhole attachment to use for great buttonholes? The one that came with the machine (black plastic with chrome metal) just doesn't make sense to me.

Can you tell me where I might find the foot pedal for the 158.14001. I’ve never seen prongs on a Kenmore like this one. TIA
