Hello. I am just repeating what everyone else said. THANKS AGAIN FOR SHARING! I was just about to call the repair guy and get charged who knows how much. This is the ONLY video online that explains this step. When I saw it was the exact same motor, I paused the video and looked up and said "thank you lord for this man and his wife, bless them always lord!" Amazing! Thanks again and again!

Sir, you are a prince. I am a former appliance repairman and an EE and I was scratching my head with the new motor and the belt switch.

Thank you so much for posting. This is the ONLY place I could find advice on this. I performed my repair exactly like this and now my dryer works great!

I really want to thank you and your wife for taking the time to post this video. I was hesitant to purchase a new motor from my local appliance repair store when I saw that it required me to splice wire. The store associate showed me this video and I was a little more confident. I followed your directions exactly and successfully replaced the motor on my 20 year old Kenmore 90 series dryer. Thanks again!

Thanks for posting this. The instructions that came with the motor kit are useless as you knew. This video enabled to replace my 30 year old dryer motor. The old appliances are way better built than the new ones so my 30 year old Kenmore set keeps going. Hopefully the Chinese motor lasts for a few years. You are a life saver!!!

Thank you! That was exactly what I was looking for! You’re right. The included instructions were confusing. I had come to the same conclusion you did with rewiring the belt switch and was relieved to see that confirmed. Thank you so much!!

I used a OEM motor from Supco, and the instructions took me an hour to figure out. Your video was extremely helpful, but I followed the instructions which reversed your wire connection; moreover, to be honest that circuit when the belt is installed provides a path, but when the belt breaks it provides an open. So, ether way would work.

I'm Sorry but this is WRONG! I have the exact same kenmore series 90 gas dryer 110.70932990 and had the same issue with the motor. I bought the exact same replacement part (model # ER 279787) because the original motor is no longer produced (model #3395654). After fighting with the blower fan (which had to be broken off and replaced) I eventually realized I had the belt switch wiring issue. I watched your video hoping it would help but it was wrong. The correct method which came from the included instructions is very simple but written in the dumbest possible way. Its 3 steps: 1) You take the black wire from the new motor off the single lead (as shown in the video 1:56). This black wire is then connected using the jumper wire to the blue wire that comes from the BACK of the belt switch (1:20). 2) Then you take the blue wire from the front of the belt switch (which was INCORRECTLY removed in this video 2:11) and cut off the female end and then splice that with the included splice wire in the kit and connect it with the included wire nut. 3) then the new splice wire female end is connected to the overload switch which is where the original black wire was connected to (1:56). That's it. A lot of words for very little work. I don't know why the company had a blind feral cat write the instructions but that's life. I hope this helps.

Please read @FrankelFam before starting work! I followed video first and unnecessarily cut a wire. 🙁 @FrankelFam instructions got me back on track... Dryer is humming away upstairs as I write.

It seems to me that BOTH yours and the video author's techniques will work. Both of your techniques "break" the wire going to the overload switch and run that part of the circuit thru the belt break switch. I don't think it matters which way the current flows thru the belt break switch, so you can connect to either end. The preceding comments are my suspicion/opinion, but my actual evidence is I did the task exactly like the video and now my dryer works great.

Thanks but slightly wrong. See comment from FrankelFarm. Also I did not use the splice at all. Wasn't included in mine. I adjusted the 1/8 female connecter to fit the 1/4 male. (I did need the two sided male jumper.) This helped later since the 279787cm replacement part only worked with assistance on the drum and returned. Ordered the OEM which is Mexican made (for $150) which works great but needed to adjust the clip back to 1/8. (I lucked out and my 279787cm did not work right away. Others failed after 30 day return window. Save time and $ and order the OEM. Twice the cost, but the right part.) Other tips: 1. Use handles of channel lock pliers to help loosen fan without destroying. 2. Check drum wheels and belt pulley to see if they roll well. 3. Test motor without drum by removing drum/belt, reattaching front door (with door switches), and lift belt switch pulley by wedging in a rubber mallet or something similar. (Original motor worked without drum but could not run with drum - even with assistance.)

I have a whirlpool. My question is what is the clutch for on the front of the motor? Is it even needed? The dryer repair man took mine off and it's working fine. Seems like it's just a round aluminum piece bolted on the front with no special movement. Is it ok to leave it off the motor and operate it?

the problem for us is wiring something that still has the old school motor on it. (all attached to something called a switch. it's smaller and has no bracket . ours is on the right upper corner , so I don't think we have a belt switch. My problem is trying to figure out the colored wire order... Same part number but totally different wiring design.

I changed to wires the way you showed for the 279787 motor, now the motor starts but stops when the start switch is released. Door switch is connected. Any Ideas on what is wrong?

Thanks for the inquiry. I am not an electrician , I am a decent bicycle mechanic and a modest do-it-yourself person. When I finished assembling my machine it would not run and I realized I had forgotten to connect 3 wires. Yours starts but then stops running after you release the start switch. Does that suggest a problem in the start switch? Sorry I don't know more. Good luck.
