thank you so much for this!!! i cant believe how disgusting a dishwasher can be unless you know that it needs to be maintained and cleaned regularly (and that it can't exactly clean itself, or at least not these older ones). good god, ive started tacking mine and what a process! this video is so helpful, I cant wait to implement these steps tomorrow.

Good for you for fixing this beautiful Kenmore ultra wash. These were some of the best dishwashers ever made, if it runs, keep it, maintain it. I have a whirlpool version still, in pristine condition thankfully. Clean them often due to the plastic interiors.

That black impeller was difficult to remove and a bit brittle. I broke some little pieces when trying to use a small nail pry tool to get under and lift up (and hope that doesn’t cause an issue.) I found that pinching the big hex (where you used the wrench to hold it while removing the ~1/4” head bolt) inside and out with vise grips and lifting up was effective for removing it.

Thank you for video. Since I am sometimes forgetful, old age you know, find it would be best to take pics so I don't wind up with extra parts. Appears to be little time consuming also. The dishwater was here 13 years ago when purchasing home and don't know if they rinsed dishes or not, which I do. Leaving film on glasses so guess it's about time to try fixing. Video was very informative. Hopefully I can find new filter for it. After fixing this I can start on trash compactor. Life is never dull around my house.

My problem was a clog in the small white outlet assembly that connects to the drain hose. It just unscrews by hand after you disconnect the hose. A blockage there. I wish I’d known how easy that was to remove before I disassembled the interior impeller assembly and pulled the whole dishwasher out to try and find the separate drain pump that this unit DOESN’T have.

Ty when i took mine apart the ball was not where it was suppose to be. Someone before me had it on top in the black tray area above it . after cleaning i put it back withe ball where it was suppose to go and its pumping water out fine now.

in my case, drainage hose was bent, hence causing the blockage. my theory is that under-the-sink part pull-out kitchen faucet caused this due to the fact that the drainage hose wasn't secured in place.

ie. There's a small inlet type thing (cream color) that's bolted under the kick plate w a brass plate, with 2 hoses.. I need to know if I put that back together properly. Idk what specifically it is,, I haven't found it online! 🙃

An 1" offset or flex head wrench will work better than a crescent or regular wrench on the impeller.
