Came back to listen to this with headphones! Wow! The classic lines of yesteryear. The modern engines of today. The glass cockpit of tomorrow, all in one gorgeous package DC-3 then, DC-3 now, DC-3 forever!

Love the DC-3 but it loses a little bit without the round engines. They did, however, leave the original hydraulics so that the gear retracts one at a time, the origin of the nickname "Gooney Bird." Thx for the vid.

@@VMCAviationVideos it has it's place. it's probably easier to maintain, has shorter take-off rolls, and a higher rate of climb. i guess those would the advantages. maybe a greater load carrying ability? the taildragger configuration cannot be beat for some applications.

Question for anyone familiar with this airplane: Since turboprops tend to maintain their efficiency better than recips when flying at higher altitudes, could this airplane see a speed and fuel efficiency benefit by flying up around 20k feet? I'm thinking it might only be practical to do so for longer ferry flights and would require the crew to have supplemental oxygen.

I would guess that the supply of radicals and parts dwindles every day so that will factor in.

Here's what maybe a strange or stupid question. I notice before the aircraft started gaining speed, it appears the engines are pointed forward where as the body of the aircraft is pointed upward. When the aircraft is leveling off to take off, do the engines also tilt? Otherwise it appears if it stayed in the same configuration, the props wold be pointed downward. However, looking at it while taking off, the props are pointed forward with the body of the aircraft. Or am I mistaken?
@VMCAviationVideos4 жыл бұрын
I know for sure, there is no "tilting" of the engines
@michaeltoellner22184 жыл бұрын
I think its like that so when you throttle up your attitude and altitude stay the same instead of going nose up/gaining altitude
@ratherbefishing42253 жыл бұрын
I can see what you mean, the engines appear to be tilted downward compared to the fuselage, but that’s just the design of the cowling. They are mounted in a fixed position and don’t tilt.

More of an optical illusion is my guess. The paint sceme can make it look different as the angle and distance changes.

This is a fake clone with budget Chinese built engines . The proper ones have P& W radial piston engines .

@ it’s literally a DC-3 airframe that has been modernized and retrofitted with turboprops. They gave these old birds new life. It’s not a clone, it’s not a knockoff, and it’s most definitely not Chinese. Respectfully, you don’t know what you’re talking about.
@maskedavenger25782 ай бұрын
@@AwDaleYeah They will have at least some Chinese sourced parts , or electrics . The USA company’s now farm out their manufacturing to Chinese factory’s ,in the quest for the almighty dollar & cheaper labour costs . The airframe may be genuine old school USA but the rest & engines are not original piston engines nor are the electrics . It’s a bastisized pig in a poke monstrosity , I know full well what I am on about I have flown in proper DC 3 Dakotas when they were still in service on scheduled routes .
@AwDaleYeah2 ай бұрын
@ I don’t think you understand how certified avionics and aircraft parts work. I can guarantee you that there aren’t any Chinese components on this aircraft. They’ve improved this aircraft in every way yet you still call it bastardized?? I don’t care if you’ve flown on them before. You don’t know what you’re talking about. Having flown on a certain aircraft type before doesn’t make you an expert, or well informed.
