It’s very normal to feel the way you’re feeling when you have to leave your baby, but as you mentioned, it’s a great age to introduce him to little bits of time without you and increase the time little by little. Makes for an easier transition for both you and baby.

It is perfectly normal for you to get emotional dropping you baby off at daycare for the first time. I have worked at a daycare in the infant room for the past 13 years and have cared for almost 200 babies in that time, seeing lots of moms cry at the first drop off. 5 months is a really good age to start daycare, he isn’t fully aware of the people around him yet and will have a smoother adjustment. Unfortunately no matter how well they clean, being exposed to a new environment and new germs (both good and bad) means he probably will get sick while his immune system builds up. But just remember it’s not only good for your own health and state of mind but this could be a really good experience for Ace as well. Being around other babies could help him meet certain developmental milestones sooner just by observing the children around him.

It is very important for parents to get the "me" time. Leaving your children with trusted adults is also good for your child. It gives them another person to turn to in a time of need. They may not be able to tell their parents things that they can tell their sitters. It is ok to leave your child(ren) with trusted sitters. Mom's and Dad's also need time together away from their children. We need to normalize this more.

child care is self care! i think we have this idea that self care is all bubble baths and sheet masks. those can be relaxing, but real self care is taking breaks, making time for yourself, and setting strong boundaries. good job doing a hard but good thing! first days are hard but you did great and did everything to set your family up for success

It is extremely hard to leave your baby for any amount of time. The first time I had to leave my firstborn with someone was when she was 3 weeks old. I had to go back to work as I couldn't take any more time off due to using half of my leave on bed rest. I was a firefighter and so was my husband, different departments, but same shift. We worked 24 hour shifts so my sister kept my daughter for those 24 hour shifts. Talk about going crazy and being nervous! My baby girl is now 26 years old and the best daughter ever! You did so great Kennadee! Ace is such a blessed little boy! BTW, I had to do the same with my son 2 years later. God bless my sister as she watched both my kids and she had 4 of her own!❤
