All these people mentioned are now sleeping in Jesus' arms. They had many triumphs and suffered quite a few losses here on earth for their artistry. But God's got em' all wrapped up in his bosom. Thank You Jesus!

I couldn't think of any one more fitting than Aretha to give tribute to The Late Marion Williams. I was in tears when I heard Surely God Is Able. Truly Marion didn't receive the credit she deserved here on earth but I'm sure she's awaiting the one she will get on that Great day!

Usually Christians who are TRUE Apostolic's don't care about the worldly Credits. They know they treasures are laid up some where beyond the Blue. The angels Beckon me from heavens' open door because i can't Feel at home in this world any more. It does not matter about recognition down here. True Gospel Artist know where their Joy really comes from, Jesus You are the center of my Joy.

Emmanuel Jones Marion was a friend of the Franklin family. She was one of the gospel legends who mothered Aretha after her mother Barbara Franklin died.

marion is certainly getting the jokes and enjoying herself elsewhere during the kennedy center honor presentations and although i've listened to her sing for over 35 years, the woman having herself a time is what i'm most struck by.

Miss Marion Williams was one of if not the greatest gospel singers ever but she didn't get the Credit for until she had passed away. She could have also been the greatest jazz and blues singer as well if you wanted to switch over but she would not. Just look at the blues Artist like Aretha Franklin little Richard Billy Preston and many many more that she in Influence. She died not long after this honor was given to her
@danielkinney94077 жыл бұрын
What are you talking about? Getting her DUES for WHAT? She just got the Kennedy Center Awards from the President of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA her name also appears in the credits for her part that she played as a movie star in FRIED GREEN TOMATOES. I would think she did receive dues. Those HONORS are very high
@danielkinney94077 жыл бұрын
I doubt knowing her GOSPEL ROOTS she knew that she didn't need any DUES from MAN but she knew her God was enough. She turned down OFFERS of POP over and over and over again refusing to bow to the world & all of it's World Fame & Fortune. She was a Christian First. From her own story.

She has a LOT Of Aretha Franklin in her VOICE. WOW. I really loved her in the movie FRIED GREEN TOMATOES i still get chill bumps every time she goes down the Aisle to the back row and puts her hands on Ninny Threadgood(JESSICA TANDY) & Evelyn Couch( Played by KATHY BATES) Marion Williams ... Gospel Singer (uncredited) name appears on the Fried Green Tomatoes IMBd website. And her name also appeared at the END of the MOVIE in the Credits. Not sure what others are talking about in these COMMENTS that she didn't get her DUE here on earth. What in the world are you talking about??? I would say getting this AWARD from the PRESIDENT of the United States Of America at the KENNEDY CENTER HONORS i ask you what MORE would you have them Give her? That is one of the HIGHEST AWARDS i have ever known.
@DrewWasMe6 жыл бұрын
No, daniel kinney, Aretha has Marion in her voice. Marion came first Aretha learned from Marion among many others, as Aretha herself has said. And yes, you are right, she earned that award, and finally got her dues in the highest regard possible, even if it wasn't 40 years earlier.

sasilver1 - a good observation. A lot of the younger folks don't realize her contribution and her fantastic vocal range. She could hit low contralto notes and then soar to a crystal soprano all in one breath. All in standing as they say "flat footed" not doing cartwheels and clowning like some gospel singers of today!

Because gospel didn't exist before black gospel. So stupid. Nothing taken away from Marion, but hyperbole is insulting.
@thelifeofyusef2 жыл бұрын
Gospel literally did not exist until black gospel. The term for the genre did not come about until black artists began singing and composing music of that nature. Hymns and religious/sacred music existed (as well as spirituals and field hollers), but they were not coined gospel because there is a distinction.
@hellokittyy96467 жыл бұрын
so its either opera, gospel, or elevator music and surely segregated as is they really lived so separately...they play games....and of course no other background exits
