+FamousPeople212 i hear what she's saying and i know everyone will be touched by the point she's making BUT Ru can't stop and have close personal friendships with every queen that comes through. we're at 100 now. it's just not something any girl should expect going into it. it reminds me of what laganja said where she thought she'd get a hug and some quality time with Ru. but it's not about that. it's about entertaining a specific demo and trying to broaden that demo to make drag mainstream. it's not about you and Ru. it's your chance to put your best foot forward with a major audience. it's not about friendship with the host. to go in thinking there will be any meaningful emotional moment away from camera is to really be missing why you're there.
@T.Holmes.359 жыл бұрын
+William Hyde: I really don't feel that Kennedy or any of the girls for that matter are looking to be bff's with Ru; that would be completely unrealistic. What she may be getting at is that she was looking for a moment of guidance and/or wisdom from Ru that transcended and was outside of the performance and pomp and circumstance of 'Rupaul's Drag Race'. During the reunions of seasons 1-3 Ru would sit down with the girls minus being in full geish and have these amazing talks. Things would get hashed out and she would offer words of encouragement for all the girls so they my move forward confidently. None of that happens anymore...it's all about the "glitz" and little substance.
@johnmichaelarnaud9 жыл бұрын
Love her Ru answer, because it's sort of what I've suspected. Ru is an immensely public figure, and there is an amount of healthy guardedness that must go along with that (and, frankly, an appropriate distance to be maintained for the sake of the Drag Race monolith). But Kennedy wasn't suggesting that Ru owed her something she didn't get. She was expressing regret that a heartfelt desire wasn't met. Big difference, and I really appreciated that honest admission of vulnerability.

I have nothing but respect about what Kennedy said about Ru! We owe a lot to her and nobody's taking her throne but Kennedy spoke the truth!

+Devin Roberts But how else is it supposed to be? I understand where Kennedy's coming from....but its not realistic to expect such a thing. I would never expect that from Ru. She doesn't owe me anything. Totally normal to want that, cuz as a Ru fan that would be incredible.

I have to say, I'm developing this pattern when watching drag race. Almost every season there's 1-2 queens I'm sort of "meh" about but that I really fall in love with afterwards (Alaska, Alyssa, Willam, Shangela) and I feel like it has a lot to do with editing and that you only ever get to see one side of people. Kennedy was one of those people for me, I really only warmed up to her after Trixie got eliminated. I feel through the way she performed and when she had that one moment with Violet where we got to see her vilnerable side, I saw much more than what they'd been showing all season. Ms. Davenport, I take everything back, I am so not over you and I want to see much much more!
@heronumber0099 жыл бұрын
+unFayemous Well, but the ones you mentioned (Alaska, Alyssa, Willam, Shangela) are all multi-talented drag queen with a "bigger than life" personality and also are very, very funny. And also, I think all of them are very well-loved by fans, even when they were still on RPDR. SO I don't understand how you use the world "meh" to describe those. On the other hand, Kennedy is very talented, but she's not that well-rounded and her personality is kinda underwhelm compare to those 4. So if you like her, that's alright. BUT I don't think she can ever archive the level of success as those 4.
@unFayemous9 жыл бұрын
heronumber009 I think I might have phrased it incorrectly. When I say I'm "meh" about them, it's more I don't like them (not because of their performances but their personalities). I'm just sort of indifferent, they're not bothering me like e.g. Phi Phi did, but I don't love them right away the way I did with Latrice. They're sort of mid field for me. Interestingly, a lot of the queens I root for during the season I kind of forget about after. Like, I really liked watching Jinkx in her season but I haven't followed her since. Same with Adore. It's not like I don't like them, I do, they just slip my mind. Maybe it makes more sense now I've put it like that?

I think it was quite interesting that someone finally dared said anything negative about Rupaul, normally it almost feels like if Rupaul himself has paid them and made them sign a contract that they need to talk of her as this superior godess who allowed them to set their foots in this world, I get of course that theyre grateful, but it just comes across as fake and manufactured

I was never one of these people who hated Ms. Kennedy Davenport or Jasmine Masters. They weren't my absolute favorites, but I didn't have this visceral hatred towards them that they received. It was a very ugly part of season 7 to see people calling them names and bashing them. It was sad to see that even amongst Ru Paul's Drag Race watchers, there were bigots. I loved being able to get to know Kennedy more and that she's just an old school queen who tells it like it is without being a hater. I respect her for that.

that COMPLETELY changed my view on kennedy. her ru answer was SO real and the whole video really was a statement on how the position of the show fucks up peoples lifes compared to what it could do. there are dozens of queens who go there aiming success or whatever and are literally exploited to just be "the girl that everyone will hate/mock". so cruel, really. thank you so much kennedy for enlightning the contestant's humanity, really, in such an efficient way. im really glad.

Kennedy comes across as a genuine person, in-fact quite thoughtful & considered. I think there's something in there within RDR - the first couple of seasons, Ru appeared to have more time for the ethnic qweens, but, as of late, its becoming the great white (young) way. Much as I like Kennedy, I don't think she had quite the whole package to win that season, but, aside from Ginger, Katya & Trixie, neither did anyone else. Anyway, she gave a fascinating interview & I love how she 're-arranged' her junk after her lap dance! Anyways, there's only been a few 'winners' that actually make a real go of their fortunes, it's like Ru says - He's giving you a platform to shine - what you do with it is YOUR BUSINESS. Most of the successes happen from those kicked off the show, it's fight or flight.
@meh.41619 жыл бұрын
+Mark Milburn It's almost even tho right? First 3 winners weren't white, then Sharon won, then Jinxy, oh an CHad 4 Allstars but Bianca won S6, then Violet. Its not really the great white way. Love what you said though...it really is like Fight of Flight.
@markmilburn34409 жыл бұрын
Yep, I don't wanna stir the racial pot though. i just felt by the last x2 seasons that there were too many young white boys skipping around with too much interest in style over substance. This was perfectly shown by Miss Fame & Pearl. Visually gr8, but no sense of wit or or entertaining a crowd. I MISS THE HUNGER TO WIN.
@davidb52057 жыл бұрын
Well, Bob The Drag Queen won Season 8 and it looks like Shea Coulee is set to sin Season 9. But their race shouldn't matter in the first place. I didn't understand Violet's win, but one year later and it makes sense. Ru clearly saw something in her that I didn't. Violet has capitalized on her win; she toured with Dita Von Teese doing burlesque and has worked with amazing artists.

I don't think Kennedy will ever understand why Violet and Pearl were mad at her and Ginger. There's a difference between saying why you should win something and saying why your competitors shouldn't. Violet and Pearl only spoke aout their evolution through the show and why they deserved to be crowned. Kennedy and Ginger spend more time saying why Violet and Pearl shouldn't win than actually defending their own cases, and that's the most unclassy and tasteless thing you could do. It reads like try to push someone down to make yourself look better or more deserving.
@bb-yl5yy9 жыл бұрын
But they asked all of them why should they be Americas next drag superstar and why your other competitors shouldn't. Kennedy just simply answered the question that was given to her.
@theonlyfirewings9 жыл бұрын
No, Ru's question was "why do you think you, not the other queens, should win the title of America's next drag superstar?" There are two ways to unerstand this question. The first one is "What is it about you that makes you stand out so much that you desere to win?", the second one is "Tell me why you should win and why the others shouldn't win". The way in which you decide to answer basically reveals if you are driven by the desire to be yourself and give your best in a competition or whether you keep comparing yourself to your competitors. Pearl and Violet chose the first way and neither of them was asked by Ru to give reasons to not choose their competitors. In other words, Ru must have thought that their answer was complete. Kennedy and Ginger went the other way and one of them didn't make it to top three. Also, if you get into details, Ginger and Kennedy gave Ru reasons to pic another queen by complimenting each other on stage, therefore they "didn't" answer the question correctly according to their own interpretation. If you know Ru through interviews and his podcast, you will understand that this question was precisely asked to reveal the contestants' outlook on life. And if there's one queen that kept dissing her competitors on and off stage during the competition, it is Kennedy. It just shows that the competition gets the best of her in certain departments.

I personally haven't met any of the queens before in reality, except for one (Dida Ritz) & have spoken to a few online. Shangela, Phi Phi, Jiggly, Lady Bunny, etc. But unlike most people, I can honestly say that I exchanged a couple of emails back & fourth back in the day with Ms. Rupaul herself! This was 3 or 4 years before Drag Race & when you could just contact him through his website. He posted a few things I had to say about gay culture on his blog back then too actually! But anyway, in the emails we just talked about his going to Diana Ross's birthday at the time & what was SHE really like in person, etc. I can honestly say that during the email convos he was very nice & professional, but kept his answers very short & sweet of course! lol Once Drag Race started tho, he became a lot more busy obviously & stopped responding to his emails. And became a lot more private & reclusive as well. But it is what it is tho, since Mother RU will ALWAYS be my Idol No Matter What! 😁

The problem wasn't that Kennedy had something bad to say about Violet. Hell, I have bad things to say about her and she's my favourite queen to ever walk this earth. The problem was that Kennedy would not budge from the idea that the younger queen's (Violet and Pearl's) style of drag was anything but inferior to her own and it affected every interaction she had with them. She was only ever nice when she needed to cover her ass and even then it was all about justifying her own actions as opposed to raising Violet up (she was a little kinder to Pearl cos she was hot for her but only just). Bianca Del Rio had plenty to say about Adore but there was never any doubt that she had mad respect for her and what she had to offer, even though they were from different worlds/walks of life and that's the difference.

Did she knew that the last episode was more then just the dancing - there was a acting challenge where she failed miserable. I am quite sure that Ru cut her cause what she let out during the last episode was the example of being unprofessional and not accepting anything that goes beyond your own horizon.
