about 10 years ago, Our town did something dumb with one Fire Hydrant. No one knows why and still bit of a joke at the town hall that pops up. but its fixed now back in 2019. But One Hydrant 10 years ago was what it was like what you were doing it was in dirt. so a extension was put onto it. but problem was The Extension they decided to go with. It was 8 feet long. Yes the Fire Hydrant Sat 8 feet above the ground. After it was Done, it did make the local newspaper. I do believe it actually even was on local news channel on tv. But it sat there for 10 years until 2019. Town decided to do something about it finally and it was lowered to a more proper height.

The worst is when you drop one of the parts down hole. Then you are pulling everything out. Watch out for those "Carter" pins if you are pulling the stem and valve. Had a coworker slice the palm of his hand on a oily, epoxy coated AVK spindle. Give me a rusty bare steel one any day.

Definitely, we really have to watch the ends of copper as well. Stuffs sharp and guys want to slap the nuts on it for fitting with their palms. Slice ya good! We always good around and call stuff wrong. Lol hence the "Carter" pins.

You should have read the directions! You were supposed to remove the "break coupling" and replace it with the "extension coupling" on the lower portion. Then install the "break coupling" on the upper section so it does it's intended job if it gets knocked over. You risk bending the operating stem if not done in the correct order.

It's funny you noticed that because I also realized what we'd done after the fact and did correct it.

Excellent. I was about to comment the same. Glad you corrected it!

Why not use the impact wrench For all the bolts ?

The Kennedy looks like the McAvity here in canada. Mueller is the more popular in my area. They should have paid you to put another 6" on top of that 12".

Yeah we use Mueller when we replace them in my hometown. We are near one of the original Mueller plants. We like them.

It’s installed wrong the black sleeve goes on the bottom and the piece that was already on the shaft is a break away traffic flange. If that is hit by a car it won’t break properly.

Looking back when I did the video, I realized that and we did flip flop that extension to fix that. Should have mentioned that. Nice catch! I had done several Mueller's but that was a first.

Nice work ! Those Kennedy’s are nice to work on. I only saw that from 20 + years of putting those together . Keep up the good work, not many people want to mess with hydrants any more .
