This song (Armstrong's) used to make me really sad, similar to the ways Somewhere Over the Rainbow and You Are My Sunshine do. They're songs that when taken at face value feel fairly innocuous but when are examined more closely, are felt more deeply, they hit in this really melancholy way. Then this came along and I am left thinking, in spite of all the present day troubles, yeah, it is. I still have hope and see the potential for it to be... This is such a special performance and such a reverent piece. Dear Jon Batiste, you're an alchemist and a deeply needed balm. Thank you for all you give.

❤ I’ve listen to this five times in a row. May 25, 1995 we had the celebration of life ceremony for our twins to welcome them into the world….. this was one of the songs that was sang. When James Booker passed in 1983, I think his spirit wandered around the New Orleans area [as spirits down here often do] and found a new host for his spirit. Jon playing is like Booker without the demons inside, his soul is angelic and his playing has reflected that. He keeps on getting better. Check out Beethoven's Blues.
