Great masterclass/Q&A/whatever you want to call it. Very helpful in learning to sing with others! I especially like the advice to put on an album you know and just sing along- that's pretty much how I learned to sing harmony- and to get involved with vocal ensembles in your community, as there really is so much out there to discover. Love the performances too of course. These people are so talented. I especially liked "Miss Manhattan" towards the end- I liked seeing Aoife mouthing along to Chris's part, ha! He did the same to her part when they performed it on APHC (as seen under their KZbin channel). Sarah and Aoife sound really great together too, it's cool that Sarah studied under Aoife at a music camp when she was younger.

A friend once said to me at a festival, after hearing some awesome playing, on the level of these musicians here, "I don't know whether to go practice, or just go home and cut all my fingers off!". She was kidding of course. But the point was made.

I love this video and its companions. These people are young, really accomplished and nicely articulate about it. Yes, yes,, yes with camera misappropriation. Can't help but think whoever was directing assumed the cool many-note solo had to be from Thile despite looking at what Thile was doing -- he was playing rhythm -- and hearing Jarosz's solo in a range and timber that clearly wasn't Thile's mandolin. Ah, who knows. A shame though. She's a fine player.

In case anyone's wondering what Sarah's split-second reaction moment is that Chris talks about, I'm pretty sure it's the infinitesimally small finger twitch at 44:17 where the chord change would happen if it were a half-length intro... Slick.

Ever notice how Thile uses about 3/4" of the pick for picking the strings? Cool - some teachers tell you to "choke up" on the pick and use very little pick, just the very tip. I think this is wrong advice for loud, fast picking. Bryan Sutton uses a lot of pick, too.

Trunk McEight Good thing to work on - lets the top move as freely as possible. Old habit of pinky anchoring is hard for me to break though. Try keeping your fingers closed in a fist for more volume too.

BTW, the only way anyone can sing Johnny Cash's "I've Been Everywhere" is to write down the lyrics and then use it as a crib sheet. Ridiculus. So ridiculus. Bless y'all. Skaggs & Rice covers will be found and celebrated.
