In Bristol there's a twice yearly 'Green Man Ultra' event (Once in the summer and once in the winter.) where people have the chance to run either the 30 mile or 45 mile route in under 24 hours. Ages ago my eldest niece and a friend attempted to walk the 45 mile route in under 24 hours. When she told me about it I decided I had to try to do it myself (If you haven't seen my video yet, here's the link:- • The Green Man Ultra. A... )
The day after that attempt, a friend of my wife's mentioned the Isle of Man parish walk; people have 24 hour to walk a 85 mile route. I did initially plan to give it a shot but eventually decided not to; I hadn't exactly kept up with training for walking 85 miles in 24 hours, plus it's a long (And potentially pricey.) journey from Dorset to the IoM.
Even though I'd given up on the idea of attempting the IoM parish walk, a part of me couldn't shake the feeling though that I wanted to do a long walk to mark the Summer Solstice but I just couldn't decide what kind of long walk to do. Then, pretty much right at the last minute, I had a brainwave; I could walk the K&A canal, a 85/90 mile route between Reading and Bristol.
Yesterday (Thursday 20th June.) I did day 4 of 4 of 12 hour shift and caught the train to Reading; I grabbed a late dinner at the local Spoons then started my journey along the K&A. The question is, how far did I get?
