It's incredible - three people for whom I've the greatest admiration brought together: John, Maggie and Kenny! Thanks for posting.

Pure brilliance . The explanation of his craft and those around it. Condensed and conveyed that it's relevance stands today.

Kenneth Williams impresses as such an erudite man. Also love Betjeman, and felt so much for him and his feelings caused by the critics

I love Kenneth on camera. I'm almost finished reading his diaries and for the most part, he just comes across as negative about anything and everyone. But as soon as I see him in interviews such as this .. wow, what a UK legend.
@djb13173 жыл бұрын
That's just his musings, I would say the real Kenneth Williams is somewhere in the middle of the diaries, his performances, his friendships and his interviews I think the most capturing of Kenneth is the background between him and Jim Dale, Jim did an impression of him to his face during a take in a film they were in, Kenneth marched over to the director and had a word, Jim Dale thought he was going to be fired, but Kenneth was impressed with the gumption and convinced the director to take him on as a carry on regular

So next weekend we have Dame Maggie sharing a couch with Justin Bieber, amongst others, on the Graham Norton Show. It will probably be amusing in a way, and I will watch, but if we needed a reminder of how mainstream media and entertainment has been dumbed down, I can't help but think that comparison between this and that would provide it.

I also remember such shows of the time, which mirrored my childhood family get-togethers of that era...social issues were discussed, debated, sides were taken and changed, etc...the closest nowadays is talk radio but not the same...
@dickshouse97563 жыл бұрын
This such an interesting comment ….my childhood family get togethers were also times where social issues and other topics were discussed and debated….. l feel now if things are discussed and debated it’s regarded as almost quarrelling…..debating and arguing a point is great social interaction and certainly was good for us as children…..presently it would be so much better than listening passively to the doom and gloom pedalled out by MSM or our SAGE pontiffs!
@1groundfog3 жыл бұрын
@@dickshouse9756 yes, that and the fact that in my experience (granted it's a small sample size), the average person (now younger than me) is so ridiculously "competitive" (read competitive of the pre-teen intellect variety) that an attempt to even broach any subject is met with derision or belittlement...so abstain from exposure to the pontifficaters is my rule...I pick and choose op-eds as the closest approximation to the erstwhile human interaction

Coincidentally, I saw her last night in "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" (a great film, I highly recommend it) and while her superficial beauty might have dimmed, her phenomenal acting talent has not - as her 2 Oscars, 7 Baftas, 3 Globes, 3 Emmys and Tony will testify!

He had a point!, brilliant to see people on a chat show with intelligence, wit and good comversation!. Graham what's your name take note!!

Kenneth Williams was and is funnier than most other observational comics. Media snobs drive me up a wall. James Mulligan you might want to pay attention to Kenneth Williams observation on critics, a eunuch in a harem who watches it done every night, but can't do it himself.
@theethicalatheist59148 жыл бұрын
This was good and seemed totally unrehearsed, not like chat shows these days, Kenneth Williams is great but Parky was right to pull him up a few times here.
@WolfyGreen11 жыл бұрын
Television that dwells on a subject without conniving at 'entertainment - and in doing so entertains and delights. In addition a 'chat' show that encourages conversation rather than precipitating a festival of 'celebrity' rear-end osculation; an interesting time, looking back.

@ProjectSamari If memory serves, John and Maggie came on first and did their TIME - and Kenny was on last. They knew once HE came on, that'd be IT! Kenny was a GIFT to any chat show.

Good debate btwn Parky and King Kenneth...both make good points and Parky also helps K see why he cannot generalize in his statement near the end of Pt. 1...don't see debates of this character anymore...

Folk commenting that KW not letting others get a word in etc. The others had been on much longer than him so had had their say - he was third guest. Plus doubt Maggie or JB minded. He was wonderful.

mockney darling.!

@@Mike8981 definitely cockney. He was from a very working class background. The more upper class accent he puts on sometimes is affected.
