Do you always do a subtraction if a pipe is shared? or are there some condition/problem in which we add the dQ rather than subtrack ii

hi professor, just a question. I noticed that in order to calculate the r value you used inches and ft in the formula. Is this correct? shouldn't be both in or ft?
