When i was small back in 1980, this song was the best story everybody was listening too. Such a great story and it's almost like you're being sung a movie because you could visualise everything that happens in the song and the end of it, wow, what a pay off. x

I love songs by Kenny Rogers, and this one is very special. It tells the whole story in the beautiful lyrics and his voice. A very important lesson for young boys to learn. You are so right on this one, James.

Kenny, my fav Country artist of all time - was a master story teller. His songs are legendary. I grew up on Kenny as my mother was so in love with him. I got to see him live 3 times. What a wonderful songwriter, singer and performer he was. RIP Kenny. Sadly, another artist JB that you got turned to shortly after losing him. But I loved your reaction. This is one of my fav songs. My two two songs are: "Love Will Turn You Around" and "She Believes in Me" (which is another great storytelling song). Other great songs by KR that tell a great story: She Believes In Me Lucille 20 Years Ago The Last 10 Years Ruby The Greatest (also know as the Baseball Boy)

I love this song and seeing people's reaction to it. Thank you for listening to this. One of the, really, important lines in Tommy's Father's advice that gets overlooked a lot. He says, "Walk away from trouble if you can." He wasn't saying to never fight, but avoid trouble if possible. When three men come into your home, beat and rape your wife...the trouble is there and there is no avoiding it, if you don't want it to happen again.

My grandfather loves this song too. So many men seem to think they aren't man enough if they aren't hostile and aggressive, and that's just not the case. There is a time and a place for that kind of behavior, but if you don't learn to control yourself, that life can start to control you.
@Frostrazor3 жыл бұрын
yup. Being a man isn't about being able to fight. It's about taking care of the people you love, taking responsibility for your actions, and making amends for those things you messed up. SOMETIMES you have to fight to accomplish these things. But it's not what - it's why that makes one a man.

I first heard this song Last Night! And I HAD to see how other people reacted to this song. It pulls you in so many freaking directions, and you are right...I too consider this song to be a masterpiece! Only other song I heard by K Rog before this was "The Gambler". This man was one of the great "song tellers"! RIP Kenny Rogers.

I'm an older lady from Tennessee. They went ahead and made a movie out of this song of Kenny Rogers. Of course the name of the movie is Coward of the county and Kenny Rogers plays the part of the uncle that raised the boy. You really ought to watch it excuse my language but it was one HELL have a great movie. Plus it had a life lesson in it. Believe me you would really really like the movie. Much love❤❤ to you and yours. God Bless you 🙏🙏

I love your reaction. There are two life lessons in this song. No, fighting and causing trouble doesn't make you a man (or a woman, for that matter) but there are times when a line is crossed and you have no choice but to fight with all you have in you to defend yourself and those you love. Kenny Rogers was a true country artist. So many wonderful songs covering such a wide range.

You are THE VERY FIRST reactor that I’ve seen get this song in the very first verse! Kenny said to walk away… WHEN you can. He didn’t say walk away in every instance. There are some things a man cannot walk away from. You got it right away my friend!🙌🫶 I get so annoyed watching other reactors babbling on & on about scenarios of why his father was possibly in jail, and other nonsense that simply doesn’t matter to the song. You got it instantly buddy!🫡🙋♀️

I love this song. It is true, you don't have to fight to be a man, but sometimes a man has to fight. I have always avoided violence. Having said that, when you have a family, sometimes violence finds them, then I find the violators. Do what ever you want to me, just do not, and I mean do not ever, ever!!!!!! Touch my family! You will find me a different man. Great reaction as always buddy, I am a big fan!!!! Thanks!

I'm 46 years old all my life I've heard one person or another say what they think it means to be a man so I'm going to put it out there what I think it means I think it means the ability to carry the weight of your mistakes of your pain and other people's pain that's what makes you a man and if you want to know it takes the same thing to make you a woman maybe I'm wrong but that's how I see it

It's amazing how all the reactors that have listened to this song all think that the advice given by his father is great and they all say, that they will tell their sons or future sons that advice, but after the Gatlin boys ... their advice changes. Country music is real life stories and many still think it's the old twang cheating and leaving songs, but its about life and in life, things like this happen. Thanks for the reaction, it was great. BTW, when you said you'd probably go to jail, ... where here's another song that you should listen to ... I'd Go To Jail Over Her by Dean Brody .. I love it ... Enjoy! kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2HTfmh6pKdmqKM
