I, too, didn’t get to find out what this would be like. My husband passed in February of 2017 10 days after we celebrated his 68th birthday. I was 61 at the time. We had been married for 33 years. Our daughters were grown and had moved out and we were alone. He was still working part time and I was between jobs. We had had tough times but in his last year I had a feeling that we were settling into our old age even though we couldn’t retire. About a week before his death I remember him telling me that he loved me more than he had when we married. And then he was gone with no warning. He died in his sleep. I have known some happiness since his death (a job in a library 📚 that was the fulfillment of a 40-year dream) but I miss him every day. I moved across the country to live with my older daughter. I miss him every day. Wished I could have grown old with him.
