Their 40+ year friendship is just as beautiful as this song with both of them singing it! They did this song together a few times live, but this one is by far is my favorite! My favorite performance of just Kenny is the official video of this song, from one of his concerts... with his silver fox hair and beard, and a cream-white suit with a butterfly collar... looking and sounding so very sexy! My favorite solo performances of this song from Lionel are definitely the 3 times I saw him live! How blessed are we to have these videos to remember all of this great music?!?!?

This is from Rolling Stone mag "As the 1980s began, country superstar Kenny Rogers was fast becoming that genre’s most successful pop crossover artist. In September 1980, after a streak of major hits helmed by producer Larry Butler, Rogers enlisted songwriter Lionel Richie, of the Commodores, to write him a song. “Lady,” also produced by Richie, would soon become the biggest hit in Rogers’ solo career and one of the best-selling songs of the decade."
@Purpletiger6Gaming3 жыл бұрын
@Marc Poindexter Richie performed “Lady” himself off his album, Time, in 1998
@wnsafford18543 жыл бұрын
@Marc Poindexter Lionel did write Lady for Kenny & Lionel did not record it 1st. In the full vid (link below), Kenny says he called Lionel, to write a song for his upcoming album. When they met for the 1st time, Lionel had just 1 word, “Lady” & a bit of melody, which had been rejected by the Commadors, 6 months later, in the studio, Kenny recorded the 1st verse, asked where the 2nd verse was, & found out that Lionel was in the toilet, writing the rest of the song. In a later interview, Lionel adds to the story, making it even funnier. He said, the 1 word he had was actually “Baby”, but when they met, Kenny kept going on & on about his wife, repeatedly calling her “a Lady”, so when Kenny asked the name of the song, Lionel blurted out “Lady.” Link; kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJSbeoFje9OFn8U
